Gravatar Amazing insights from a young person who can not possibly be accused of accepting funding from Big Oil or whatever unacceptable source.

Over on Steven McIntyre's excellent ClimateAudit.org site is a series of challenges of the basic temperature data that is at the root of all the AGW hysteria. I especially like his recent link to a weather monitor in California, at the edge of a paved parking lot, next to an air conditioner's exhaust and on the sunny side of a building. Oddly enough, the temperatures recorded there were climbing, in stark contrast to an open field rural monitor 60 miles away. Go figure...

This malarkey will be exposed, root and branch, eventually. The incentive for reporters to dig in will increase when we start seeing our utility bills climb for no reason other than paying for GHG offsets, which enrich the traditional targets of the mass media. There are more newspaper readers than there are carbon credit traders...

Gravatar Humanity would be up shitakes creek without a paddle, if the octogenarians lived for centuries.

As people grow old, they obtain more wisdom but the problem has always been, they also obtain and maintain bad habits and ideas. The young are ignorant, that is their problem, but in their ignorance they have something that the older generation lost a long time ago. New ways of looking at things, a fresh perspective.

Thus is the cycle of life and death imposed upon a civilization's progress.

And it is why the Left and Utopians will always fail in their attempts at perfecting humanity. Because you will perfect the flaws as well as the benefits, even if should you succede. And then where will your perfection be, eh?

Gravatar I just paged through Al Gore's new book in a book store. In the book he tries to explain that the people of this country have deserted REASON. Yes, according to AL, we can no longer add the facts up and reach REASONED conclusions.

Al says one conclusion we have gotten wrong is that it's okay for the individual to try to make the most of himself and earn lots of money. According to Al it's okay for people to work hard and do their best, but only for the COMMON GOOD. That's when I quickly put the book back on the stack and knew Al is still selling the socialist crap he's always believed in.

What Al doesn't get is that he's the one who has deserted REASON. And this wonderful 15 year old girl illustrates it so well.

Gravatar Thanks for the sewer-dive JimmyJ. Two things in Al Gore's message ought to be red flags: 1) claiming that regular people just don't know enough to be trusted with important decisions (think through which characters throughout history have used the same logic) and 2) whenever anyone says "common good" the refrain ought to be "common" including who? "good" according to who? and finally, who exactly gets to decide those things?

Gravatar Long on rhetoric and short on facts. Climate models do indeed figure in clouds and water vapor as this is climate science 101. And they do their best to predict ENSO, volcanic activity and solar activity -- you just have to read their reports. My God man, just do a little homework before you start on your vitriolic tantrums.

Gravatar "do their best to predict"...

...not good enough for turning the entire world economy and political system upside down. Some things are fundamentally unpredictable. Cloud forms, cloud volume, precipitation changes, volcanic activity, ENSO swings and solar activity are just a few of those. The way they are "figured in" in climate models is guesswork at best. I stand by the rhetoric.

Even if one were to cede everything about the models however (and I don't), it's worth doing some of your own homework--reading the archives and answering some other relevant questions before you go throwing around accusations about "tantrums".

Gravatar Hi Kobayashi:

Thanks for noticing my tracking of the "omitted variable" problem through the 4th IPCC. They really are pretty naked about simply omitting solar activity from their models, then fraudulently claiming that they are using their models to distinguish between anthropogenic and natural causes.

I just put up a new post urging people not to jump to the wrong conclusion as the anthropogenic warming hoax comes undone. Many will take away the lesson that we should reject alarmism in general, and certainly not pursue alarmist policy prescriptions. This would be a big mistake, because we really do need to be pretty urgently concerned about global cooling, which unlike warming really does reach a "tipping point" where cooling runs away until we are in a deep freeze.

Hopefully our present lull in solar activity is just a lull, but it won't be long (mean predictions are a couple of decades) before we are hit by a serious downswing, which WILL cause serious global cooling. Any serious cooling episode has the potential to drop us into an ice age, given that the next ice age is due any century now. We should start donning a warmer jacket of greenhouse gases immediately.

This issue highlights the contest between the naturalist religion of the eco-activists (natural is good, even if it means descending into an ice age), and the Bible's call for man to exercise "dominion" over nature (husbanding and using natural resources as we see best in order to preserve and create value).

Gravatar This site sucks balls! But it's okay so do I.
