Why would some go in the attic? Common sense lacking.

Amy, choosing between rising waters at the 1st floor, along with 100 - 140 mph winds outside along with flying debris, you have no choice but to go up inside your house. The quick rise in water level caught many people off guard. What are they going to do? Get a ladder and go outside and climb to the roof in 100 to 140 mph winds and rain?

BTW, and there were a few reports, so far, where many were swept away when they tried to get to the roof from outside when rising waters rose close to the roofs edge.

True, I've been in quick-rising surge. They're powerful.

I'd rather float free & catch something to hang on than go up in the attic & be trapped.

Well, this is in the dark, lights are out, utter darkness, winds are howling 120 - 140mph, surging waters...people are not that inclined to go out and risk that option hoping the water would recede enough not to worry about it.

My sister-in-law lost part of her home. Her roof is gone (so much for the attic theory) and her employer's business is gone. She worked for a casino....she called the casino while ago and was told she would be paid for at least 12 weeks while they regrouped. However they are not allowed back in to repair their home or retrieve belongings.

My friends in New Orleans I have not heard from.

That's right, it happened during the dark...
