Whatever happened to hiring the BEST PERSON FOR THE JOB????
Don't the protestors actually realized that they're making Gally look bad in the eye of Potential Students? Potential Employers? Potential Donors?
Is this what passes for knowledge - it's far more important to know ASL than to know how to run a UNIVERSITY???
The protestors have their priorities screwed up.

They do. I think they are desperately trying to model after DPN. The only problem is that there are nothing that the general audience can sympathize with. This is NOT DPN2, folks.

I tend to agree with the first respondee, you should be discussing who is best for the job, not who signs or has the correct deafness (!).
deaf people expect to be judged only on ability yet are setting conditions that have nothing to do with it. Does the new dan have to be fluent on the many languages students use too ? it's too political, and the factions are already at it, if it isn't the anti-oral/hearing section its the pro-ethnic/black sector, or deaf purists more a farce than a democratic process and makes deaf look bad..

check out my blog for the actual picture of the student holding up the "she doesn't say hi" sign, and decide whether u had inadvertedly blown it out of proportion. after all, it was just one (not very bright) student.
one thing i do agree is that the protesters sent a mixed message to the media esp on the first day. in hindsight, they shouldn't have protested till they've had done some planning.
