BIG HUGS!!
Thank you so much for allowing me inside your life by doing this entry. It is so interesting to learn about a person and their character by eliminating our preconceived notions about disabilities.
When we learn how to respect a person's life journey we, in turn, earn respect about our life journey.
I hope I have permission to insert your blog into my blog link. Let me know, thanks!
Drink plenty of fluids and rest well!
Tactile smile!

Patty, you have my permission. Thanks.
I think I'm finally at the end stage of my cold. It's been about a month of up and down kind of thing. We'll see in the next few days. No menthol cough drop so far today.

Your comfort source of communication is very important and I hands-waving for you being blunt and being who you are!
I am comfortable in using ASL and I still have struggle trying to speak clearly making it understood able by hearing people. Since your speaking ability is clearly to the hearing people so why not. Sometimes it is hard for Deaf people trying to explain to hearing people after they see you speaking, they assuming all Deaf people can speak fluently. This may is the reasons why some Deaf people are angry at you for not using sign language. I am not angry at you; I am having so much fun challenging the hearing people. This is the only way we learn more about each other and become friends.
You have my support for believing in yourself!
Good luck! Wish I was out there enjoying the scenery! ;D

You've shown what your life journey has brought you thus far-- that is, adversity is not the tragedy some "normal" people consider it to be. Adversity is a good teacher and one can learn many different lessons. By the same token adversity compels one to become creative with solutions to barriers.
Mike, I had a cold once that evolved into a sinus infection and it went on for weeks-- until I went to the doc and got some meds for it. Not normal for a cold to go for weeks, ya know.

What a great vlog Mike! Can you imagine the feelings that will create in the hearing parent of that newly diagnosed deaf baby? The parent who until now, really probably knows nothing about deafness. Your story about the timing of when you got your hearing aids, oh and then getting it on the correct ear : - ) Parents seeing you confident in using speech and putting yourself out there for the world to watch your vlog - talk about "expected as achievable and very reachable goals"
Awesome job! Oh and your mother - legend!! I can not imagine how much harder it was for her 40 something years ago, compared to today....clearly you and she are quite a team when it comes to adversity : - )

Hiya Mike,
I liked the symbolism of including the desert here. Being a Northwesterner where it rains constantly and everything grows in profusion, I've always been fascinated by desert life. Your vlog has given me much to ponder. I might even blog later and link to it-- not sure yet. Generally adversity has been a good thing in my life, even when painful. I've done the most growing and learning through the worst times and feel all the stronger for it. This is one reason I do not regret my hearing loss. But I can't say I've always felt this way. I still have "sour puss" days sometimes-- not always related to the hearing. But like you I've learned to put it into perspective. There are worse things than hearing loss. Life isn't fair. No one gets through life unscathed-- unless its a short life. We all end up with a few wounds to lick in the end. As we age we become more empathetic.

Truly awesome vlog, Mike! Really enjoyed it. Your mom was just like my mom, trying to find informations about what to do with me being deaf over a year after I was born (born hearing, became deaf in less than 24 months).

Nice Post Mike, You're sort of like me as I can Speak but also I can use ASL too. Anyway .....
I have one question Mike .... What if your age get older and older your hearing loss drop down you know and you may not able to hear your self anymore by get older age so what are you going to do about it. Change to ASL later on ....can be ... don't you think so. Just curious what is your mind to say about this your future if happen. Or any idea of your thought.
Thanks
Davy

Hiya, Mike!
The background is pretty but quiet!
You were so cold outside, why don't you drink Cognac? It'll keep you warm!
Thanks to the internet....it'll save many people's lives.
Gotcha....

Davy, keep an eye on advancing hearing technology, especially auditory neural implant which is fast coming down the road, and, of course, biotechnology such as stem cell or other manipulation to get the nerve cells to regrow again.
Auditory neural implant -

White Ghost, drinking any kind of alcoholic drinks such as liquer actually speeds up the hypothermia process or in this case cools down the body even faster. Cognac does not warm the body.

BTW, it wasn't cold that day. It was like 72 degrees. Why do you say it was cold?

*In awe..* NM is beautiful! wow! Looks nice compared to where I'm at now! (too cold and too white!)
How could they have put hearing aid in the wrong ear?!
The more you vlog and talk, the more I'm thinking, maybe I should do the same soon....perhaps, in good time.

Mike-- This is off topic, but do not know if you ever heard the story of the Titanic cook who supposedly survived in the freezing water because he drank a half bottle of whiskey before jumping in. Researchers have repeatedly debunked it as impossible but the myth remains today. AND a few years back a drunk guy fell overboard off one of our ferries. He too was in the water all night and should have suffered hypothermia but did not. Go figure.
I like your vloggin best, but I wish you would see a doctor for your cold. You might need a CT scan on your sinuses if it continues. Maybe you have developed allergies? Try ocean spray.
