This blog is way left of center...

Gravatar You are going to hell, sinner.

Gravatar FWIW, I said that prayer as a child as well. Did me no good either.

Gravatar That reminds me of Father Mulcahy's take on that very same prayer in a MASH segment:

Now I lay me down to sleep
A bag of candy at my feet.
If I should die before I wake
Give them to my brother, Jake!

Gravatar ww,i like THAT prayer!

Gravatar That was the bedtime prayer my parents had me say back in the 1950's!
When at about age 7 it dawned on me what it meant to die, I refused to say it anymore!
Sheesh. And all those bloody Grimms fairy tales, too!
Well, we're happy adults now despite it all, yes?

Gravatar I think this prayer did a lot damage to a lot of us. Making a child think about death and the possibility of not waking up....what were our parents thinking?

I can say for sure that I did not do this to my own kids.

Gravatar Rock-a-bye baby in the treetop
When the wind blows the cradle will rock
When the bough breaks the cradle will fall
And down will come cradle, baby and all.
