here's the way my cousin, the brilliant attorney sees it. if a marriage in california is legal it must, according to the full faith and credit clause of the constitution, be legal in every other state.
that means if my cousin and his husband get married in california they will return home and sue arizona, in the federal system.
they've got the papers ready to go, so do a whole lot of other folks.
good choice on joni. she's always a good choice.

I just did a post about that. And Droudy (of the blog Southern Atlantis) brought this to my attention:

Some couple, somewhere is going to have to be the one to challenge all the state "one man, one woman DOMA" laws and constitutional amendments in the SCOTUS on the basis of "full faith", etc. But until that happens and they win, all the state marriage inequalities will stand.
On a good note, as of right now California doesn't have a residency requirement to get married there like Mass does. I don't know about you but I see a potential business opportunity in gay marriage chapels right across the state line inside California.

harvey milk is having his revenge on california.....
and it is very, very sweet.
people can talk all they want about the "people's republic", falling into the sea, babylon, the governator, etc., but things like this remind me just how much i am fond of my home state.

I'm ashamed to say that the usually very progressive state of Oregon has one of those 'one man, one woman' laws on the books now. On a more positive note we did just pass a stronger anti-hate crime bill and now allow those so-called civil unions.
The pendulum is swinging faster and further to the left. I'm sure we'll have gay marriage here before long. God, I just hate it when California beats us to the punch. (WE decriminalized Marijuana and instituted medical marijuana first though...neener, neener, neener)
