While I mourn the death of M. J. here in N. Z., I am over the hype and reminded of an early Star Trek episode where Spock comments that 'you humans find it harder to understand the death of one than the death of millions'.
It's also interesting that MJ's death was largely brought about by his own doing, more or less, or his doctors, and while 50 is way too young to die, those who are dying in the line of duty who are in their late teens, 20s, 30s, and number in the thousands are hardly given a thought. It's just a really strange contrast on this sad day.

And, kiwigirl, kudos for using a quote from Star Trek, especially Mr. Spock, to make your point. It really fit the happenings of today's events.

this reminds me of the newsmagazine poll, during the year of the demonstraions and brutal suppression of the same in tienamin square that young american's were listing micheal jackson as their hero.
tank man from the square has yet to be found, probably a bullet to the brain in some squalid basement, micheal couldn't even bother to drown in his own puke like a real rocker...

My brother lives near the house where Jackson's mother lives. He says it has been a zoo. People are walking down his street with bouquets of flowers and helicopers are flying over the neighborhood non-stop. The traffic was so bad, they put up a police roadblock to turn the curious away.
It is too bad the family didn't issue a statement asking for donations to charity rather than flowers and gifts.
