Ewww. Naaaaasty. Viva le dorks!

Gravatar Did you watch the actual testimony? Schilling defended MLB & their ignoring of steroids all day. He actually said, let baseball police itself -- like it's worked out so well so far. It was pathetic. All these multimillionaire baseball players saying they didn't see much steroid use, or they just can't say for sure. Schilling denying what he said three years ago about players using steroids & human growth hormone & looking like Mr. Potato Head (difference between then & today: Today he's a player rep! Deny everything!) All I gotta say to those guys is, no guts, no glory. Slink off. Shame on you all.

Gravatar "Whatsyourpoint" has changed my mind...after his powerful words, i am no longer a red sox fan, or a schilling fan...

Gravatar Thanks, Beth. I couldn't find the right words.

Gravatar Hmmmmmm....from responses, must realize outspokenness by Curt Schilling good, outspokenness by What'sYourPoint bad?

Hey, I'm a diehard Sox fan, & I love Curt Schilling the player. But he wasn't outspoken in the hearings.

Schilling, Sports Illustrated, 6/3/02: Schilling says that muscle-building drugs have transformed baseball into something of a freak show. "You sit there and look at some of these players and you know what's going on," he says. "Guys out there look like Mr. Potato Head, with a head and arms and six or seven body parts that just don't look right. They don't fit. I'm not sure how [steroid use] snuck in so quickly, but it's become a prominent thing very quietly. It's widely known in the game.

Yet at the hearings he retracted this clear statement. Here's Stephen Cannella of SI on Schilling's testimony before the committee:

Schilling has a future in politics
He was told as much by committee members impressed with his eloquence -- and his ability to dance around questions and change positions. Schilling was called to testify because over the years he's been an outspoken critic of steroids and one of the few players willing to acknowledge they were rampant in the game. On Thursday he announced that he'd been blowing smoke, talking authoritatively about a hot issue with intense media interest. (It's safe to say his current and former teammates weren't shocked by that revelation.) Schilling said he had "overstated the problem," and that he believes baseball's current testing program should be allowed to run its course.

It was a world-class waffle. Yet the Committee ate up Schilling's performance, even though his frankness factor paled next to Canseco's. He may well be sitting on their side of the microphone some day.

So that's my point. Schilling wasn't outspoken.

p.s., I'm not a guy, either.

Gravatar Canseco wasn't real frank after reversing his position on whether steroids were good or bad.

//a head and arms and six or seven body parts that just don't look right.//

Am I the only one who imagined a weird spider-baseball player here? Like, with lots of extra limbs. Bet he'd make a heckuva fielder.

Also, for the record, I love Curt as a pitcher, and I love the fact that he speaks out. I pretty strongly dislike what he's speaking out about most of the time, but one can't have everything, right?

Gravatar //So that's my point. Schilling wasn't outspoken.//

okay. go home now, k thx.
