Gravatar 11/3/05.(AP)Boston: The Boston Red Sox today announced the second major shake up in three days when it was announced that Larry Lucchino, the club's President and CEO, was relieved of his duties. In his place the team announced that Theo Epstein, who resigned as General Manager on Monday, was rehired and given the title of President to go along with his General Manager duties. The team announced a press conference for 2PM this afternoon. Lucchino was spotted last night at Logan Airport, cursing and actually spitting at any reporter who came within range.

I will believe this to be true for at least two days.

Gravatar Please let it be so.

*burst into tears*

Is it wrong that I'm way more upset about this than I was about losing Nomar?

Gravatar I'm much more upset about this then I was about Nomar, too.

"Fuckity, fuck, fuck.

If only I could be more eloquent."

I think that sums it up perfectly, actually.

Gravatar Losing Nomar helped us win the World Serious (thank you Theo). Losing Theo prevents the same from recurring, except that he's not gone yet.

I believe.

So, party somewhere for MNF next week? Someplace with trinkets and plenty of Jack to fill them?

Gravatar Okay, listen up. Here's the new plan. Somehow, we coerce Robert Kraft into laying out the capital to buy the Red Sox and the Bruins. I mean, he already owns the Pats and the Revolution, can total Boston sports ownership be far behind? Then, at every game, we'll get trinkets. Stanley Cups, World Series trophies, Lombardi trophies, whatever. And there will be stands selling all manner of imbibable goodness. We will fill our trinkets, raise them high and toast to championships past, present and future.

Oh, and Bob Kraft will totally have Lucchino "taken care of" and hire Theo back.

I mean, the Pats are probably the best run organization in professional sports. Kraft is tight with John Henry. This could work, right?

Gravatar Maybe we could get Kraft to adopt Theo and give him the Sox as a present.

I've been asking customers all morning if they were interested in joining a Lucchino lynch mob. Everyone said yes.

And yes Kristen, your idea is excellent. I again call for your reign as Empress of the known universe.

Gravatar "Bob Kraft has nothing on us! We have trinkets."

So funny.

"Theo, buh-bye."

So sad

Gravatar Lucchino has added himself to the rouge's gallery of incompetence and ego-maniacal leaders of the Red Sox in it's ledgendary history.

This was about one thing -- Larry's ego. He bristles at the thought that Theo could be more talented than he is. That Theo gets the accolades for the Sox success. That Theo's first wife will be hotter than Larry's trophy wife, Stacey (who is very hawt, BTW).

Larry forgot one thing -- you never gamble with a man with nothing to lose. Theo called Larry's bluff (the CHB's Sunday article) and was willing to step away. Now, Theo has several open positions to choose from, and for that matter could probably unseat a couple of GMs in the league if he wanted to (not likely that he would do so). Even if he takes a year away from the game, most owners and team presidents would welcome him back with open arms.

How small is Larry's dick?

Best of luck Theo. RSN knows that we couldn't have done it without you. We also know that it probably won't happen anytime again soon now.

Hey, I know, Dan Duquette is looking to get back into the Majors again.

Gravatar "Who's going to be calling the shots? Can we put a GM in place right away? Maybe it's going to be [club president/CEO Larry] Lucchino who tries to iron out the free agency and tries to figure out what team we're going to go with," said Damon.

No no no no no no no no nooooooo
I threw up a little in my throat when I read this. It's just Captain Caveman, but... the fact that it was *said* makes me want to cry.

Gravatar I'm sad, frustrated and can't take this constant drama. Someone make it stop and make it better.

Gravatar Bill Simmon's write up on the whole thing pretty much lays it out in the most sensible fashion. What's sad is that I think he's right about the Shaughnessy story being the cause for the apparently sudden change of mind. Well Larry, who's the master now?
