I concur. Bring Dougie back! A backup catcher who can HIT THE BALL? Bloody hell.

Something else that makes you sit down and go "wow" - the only common positions from last year other than DH are the catcher and left and right fielders. Everyone else is new. Brand new infield, CF, and a fair amount of new pitchers.

Yes, that was a pathetic attempt at a graphic illustration. The O's (for "Old") are the only people who we know. I'm not saying they're worse or this is a bad thing, but I think we all could do with an "O" at third. We miss you, Buelly.

Gravatar I vote to bring Mirabelli back, too. Need at least one Italian on the team.

Gravatar What a wierd deal in San Diego. Bunches of AL teams (including the Twins) were considering Piazza as a DH. He's old, especially for a catcher, and it seems a lost cause to tutor him about footwork and release points and such. Mirabelli should be back in Boston, but if he stays with the Padres, I predict he'll play more than Piazza because Piazza will just run out of gas.

And we no longer need Piazza at DH in Minnesota because we went out and got Ruben Sierra! Ru-ben! He's only 40 and he swings at damn near everything and misses most of the time. Every now and then, though, Ruben will hit a majestic, towering, soaring homer that is a thing of beauty, which he will admire during his prolonged (and semi-arthritic) home run trot.

Can't wait!

Gravatar //Need at least one Italian on the team.///

WE HAVE TONY GRAFFANINO! He's way more Italian than Dougie. His name is TONY for pete's sake. And my nonna refers to him as that "nice Italian on our team".

And, Merrill, you mention the "Loco for Coco" campaign, but not the "Frisky for Riske" one? Disappointing.

Gravatar I agree with Annette. Frisky for Riske rulz.

Gravatar Annette,

You are right, I did forget about Tony G., but I also fear he won't be on the opening day roster, given our excess of second basemen.

Gravatar Friske for Riske is probably already a Soxtease shirt.

Gravatar Bruce Bochy is going to help him be a better catcher? Are they for real? It's Mike frigging Piazza! He's a thousand years old and barely able to get out of a catcher's crouch anymore. If there's any truth to the phrase "you can't teach an old dog new tricks", Piazza is a dog so old his bones are getting dug up and chewed on by younger dogs.

The manager is going to show him how to catch again. Sheesh.

Gravatar DAAAAAVE ROOOBBBEEERRRTTTSS!!

Gravatar Yup I'm with you bring Mirabelli BACK to BOSTON - and I haven't given up on that yet - now that Theo is back! heh

Gravatar Doug! E! Fresh!
