I hadn't noticed, in seeing that picture before, that his jersey was unbuttoned that far down. Were they undressing him in that home-plate pig pile?
(Not that with this team, I'd be at all surprised. bow-chicka....)
I've been trying to figure out a nickname too. I've been calling him Mahky, but I don't know if it really suits him. It doesn't feel right to me. ( Mostly since I want to distinguish him from the Bell.)

According to the Boston Globe Red Sox Notebook, Ortiz has already asked Theo and Tito to have the bullpen wall moved in a few feet so that he wouldn't have to go through that again
I know Mark hit the walk off home run and I know Ortiz hit two homers, but thie thing that made me smile the most yesterday was that Manny got two authoritative hits. the second one was only a single because it was Fenway and it hit the wall too hard...
And saving the bad pun for last, would that be Mahky Mahk 'Over the Wall'berg?

Remember when Cabrera hit a walk off and someone tried to pull his pants down?
Now that's the kind of connection to 2004 we need round these parts.
Also, did you sing "O Canada" when Stern was at bat? This is a very important responsibility.

//Hey, did y'all hear there was some kind of road race today?//
Yeah, unfortunately, I spent the day chasing my sister all over eastern Mass while she ran that damn race instead of being where I belong, in front of an HD screen with a beer.
Caught the replay last nite -- a thing of beauty!! This team is finding new interesting ways to win. I'm looking forward to this season...
Did you catch the interview with Mahky after the game? "This place is playoff atmosphere every game." Welcome to the big time. (BTW, as much as I appreciate the eye-candy that NESN is providing, I can actually say I miss Eric Freide's interviews.)

Unlike some of you lucky bastahds, I was stuck at work because Rhode Island prefers to celebrate our Victory over Japan instead of patriots day. I caught the game on ESPN's gamecast and I don't think I've ever made so much of a fuss about seeing a little digital ball fly accross the field at Fenway and over the Green Monster.. . . I got more than a few wierd looks from coworkers.
My friend Josh and I were both guilty of quietly begging Loretta to just get on base so that Pappi could show up Pujols and win the game for us. I'll take the end result either way though.

//Marianne and I, in a moment of pure Imaginary Baseball World brilliance, realized that Mark Loretta is clearly an amatuer entymologist. Look at him, he just looks like a guy who spends his off days carefully pinning the wings of butterflies to display boards and painstakingly cataloguing the difference between an African and an Asian dung beetle. (Note: I don't even know if African or Asian dung beetles actually exist. Sam?). And so, in order to inspire him to get on base and let Papi do his thing - or so we thought - we promised him a shiny, new, green beetle. Clearly, he thought this was a good tradeoff. I'm just sayin', the Imaginary Baseball World power cannot be denied, y'all.//
when marianne told me this at the game last week, i choked violently on my popcorn.
i'm so glad IBW is fully and entirely ours again--no more interlopers, pretenders or impostors to the IBW magic. that fuckin' bitch.

Dung beetles live all over the world, wherever dung is deposited. If someone is a-crappin', these fellows are a-ballin'.
