Either we drive the bus and hope for the best, or Matt drives it into a brick wall. It better NOT be the latter...

You said it.
I think Boston will always be a baseball town, at heart, but I think you solved it when you see that Papi, as Papi as he is, is not a quarterback.
I don't think there is a baseball equivalent to a quarterback, in terms of overall importance and integration into the team's total success.
Catchers are important, and ace starters, and closers-but you can replace them and kind of work around it.
But a quarterback is critical in all kinds of ways-not just the mechanics of throwing but the other stuff-recognizing the defenses and making the checkdowns and, most importantly, not panicking and throwing picks under pressure. And the stability, or lack of same, at the QB spot feeds into the whole rest of the team.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I present Andrew Walter.

The baseball equivalent of losing Brady would be, in April, watching Beckett, Varitek, Paps, and Ortiz have season-ending injuries.
Mass hysteria would ensue...just as it has for the Pats the past week.
