Call the new stat "BFTB" for Back From The Brink. It is (as are almost all baseball stats), the mirror image of a clutch hitting stat. "Close and Late" in this context would mean that it's after the fourth inning (or after fifty pitches), there is less than a two-run difference in the score, and there are two runners on with less than two out. Each time the starter wiggles out of such a jam, he gets some kind of score (arbitrary but consistent). Add up the scores for each pitcher and you have a ranking of pitcher 'clutchiness.' I suppose you could also just call it The Schill Quotient.
The problem with this stat is that it involves a bunch of math (counting innings and runners and runs and outs and pitches -- whew!)and that, for me, is just too much work.
Better just to imagine Tito in a jar.

Or maybe the new stat could simply be called LB for Lucky Bastard

I vote yes on the Kapler/Tek/Lowell triumvirate, as long as Gabe is shirtless at all times. Hell, they can all be shirtless. Might as well dream big.

Shirtless Management By Committee. Oh, the Red Sox' future is bright.
I seriously love how Coco is becoming our own little Ichiro.
