Should we be singing "Memory?" We should, right?

I think you hit the nail on the head. On any other team in the world this is just an aging backup catcher, no big deal, I would be surprised to find out that Dodgers fans have emotions about Gary Bennett. And most of our reserves, it's like, "oh, Eric Hinske. You seemed like a nice dude, but...well, godspeed and don't be trying to play first base anymore." But this is Dougie. He's a cult hero. Hell, he's a folk hero. Without his fearless, disembodied leadership, I would never have gone anywhere near Kowloon.

I'm totally huffy with Theo right now. It's not logical, but it's true.

They are just setting him up for the grand police escort entrance to the Tokyo Dome in a few weeks when Cash has his first passed ball of the season...

They will pull the Concorde out of retirement just to get Dougie to Japan...

Gravatar You're absolutely right. I sincerely hope they bring him back again (when Cash can't catch a knuckleball) but it's not right the way they treat our Dougie.

Gravatar I know it's wrong, but part of me just wants Dougie to retire so we can get him on NESN shows ASAP!

Gravatar Perhaps J.D. Drew Appreciation Night should be held next?
Preferably before Coco is traded.

Gravatar So well put on the loss of Dougie: he may be a back up catcher, but he was a cult figure. My friends and I - so enamoured with the Dougster we created a drinking game in his honor - are pretty distraught over the whole thing, and don't know what to do. So far our answer is to continue to wear our Dougie tshirts to Wake's starts, and play the Doug Mirabelli Drinking Game with Kevin Cash. Altered rules: drink whenever Cash is not Dougie.

And I just have to say how awesome your Dougie Appreciation Night looks. We tend to have all of our get togethers at Kowloon for obvious reasons (Dougie and Scorpion bowls, who needs anything else?), but I never thought to bring him along on a stick. It will so be happening the next time we're there...

I just discovered your blog through the Dougie post, but keep up the good work!
