Over the nearly 20 years of my ministry, I have watched what appears to be the devolution of a once-wonderful organization based on Christian principles, from something that affirmed the dignity and value of human life, into an organization that seems bent on furthering the death process from a perspective of free-floating spiritual relativism. Common thread between Terri Schiavo and Mae Magouirk? Hospice.
I think they may have an ugly little secret. They are supposed to accept only patients who have been diagnosed as terminal with no more than six months to live. But they are admitting and killing the non-terminal Terri Schiavos and Mae Magouirks, and numerous unnamed others. I can't help but wonder what's happened?

Let me clarify something, I said they are "killing" the non-terminal. That is a very broad charge which could lead to some wrongful conclusions. Hospice does care for people, yes. But among their protocols to ease patient discomfort is morphine, which administered in increasingly higher dosages, does ease pain. But also does create conditions in which respiration can be and often is arrested. Is this intentionally passive euthanasia? Is euthanasia not just another word for killing, if with something of a "humane" tone, like when we put our sick pets "to sleep"? I think so. Thus the more accurate term "killing" does apply.
