Gravatar Thanks Martin. I just ran into this problem this morning. What I don't understand is why I haven't run into it before? I've been running Skype for months, and I haven't updated the client recently. Weird. Anyway, you saved me a ton of troubleshooting woes, so thank you. Good tip.

Gravatar Todd,

this problem can occur if your web site is not running when Skype tries to initiate connection on port 80 (during file transfer I guess). This situation is pretty rare for a web developer and it happend to me when I 'iisreset' my web server. I suppose that's why you have not run into this problem before.

Gravatar Thanks Martin. I was able to quickly fix this problem after reading your post.

Gravatar You are THE MAN!!! Thanks!

Gravatar Thank you The solution exactly. Stupid stuff..

Gravatar Thanks Martin, I got this problem this morning after starting my machine. I guess Skype must have started before IIS for some reason and grabbed port 80. Stopped Skype from using port 80 & 443 then started the website and things are working again.

Gravatar Thanks a lot

Gravatar Hey thanks..

Gravatar You just saved me too
Thanks a lot!

Gravatar count me in as a martin fan. that would have taken somw time to figure out without this cool thing I have on my computer called the internets.

Thanks!

Gravatar Thanks, Martin. I don't know how I could possibly have figured out what was causing that error without your blog entry.

Gravatar It even prevents you to connect to reporting services and staff.. a really good point Martin, it turns out that your effors have helped a looot of people!

Gravatar Thanks a lot, you saved me a ton of time.

Gravatar Thanks Martin - I was 10 minutes away from a demo and got this problem - you blog got me a quick fix in time for the demo - many thanks - I owe you a beer, or some Microsoft socks SWAG!

Gravatar thanks man!

Gravatar Whew! That was easy (after reading your blog). I've been sweating on this one for 2 evenings. Thanks a lot, Martin.

Gravatar Problem: When attempting to interactively debug an ASP.NET application in Visual Studio 2005, the debugger fails to launch and returns the message "Unable to start debugging on the web server. The server committed a protocol violation. Section=ResponseStatusLine"

Background: This error usually occurs when you have set up Visual Studio to debug an existing web application running in Internet Information Server (IIS) rather than the built in ASP.NET debug web server. IIS by default listens for web requests on port 80. In this case, another application is already listening for requests on port 80. Typically, the offending application is Skype, which by default takes over listening on ports 80 and 443 when installed.

Resolution: In Skype, navigate to Tools -> Options then select the Connection icon in the left hand pane. De-select the option "Use ports 80 and 443 as alternatives for incoming connections." You must restart Skype for this change to take affec

Gravatar Thanks Martin Kulov,

It help me a lot.

Bye.

Gravatar I love you!

Gravatar Hi,
you know what's the best thing about this ? I ran into this a long time ago and after much headache I found the solution. Then really avoided using skype anyway because I don't like it at all. But since I had some job contacts on it I used it now and then and today the problem returned !
But by this time I forgot to check the option since I already took care of it and went again to google to look for answers. Found your post, then remembered how stupid skype is, closed it and... problem solved.
I was still calling names when it occurred to me to check advanced options anyway and... the check has been automatically reset !
Now I'd really like to trash skype for good, so I'm making all the contacts switch to other IM and VoIP clients.

Gravatar Thank you so much, Martin!!!
I've had the same problem since I installed Vista and the latest version of Skype.
Spent a whole day looking for the solution to this odd problem and finally stumbled upun your post.
You have saved me a lot of time.
Thank you for sharing.

Roberto
