I was gonna post this yesterday but google ate my comment. anyway, you should definitely contact them, I bet they just stole your photograph off the web. People do this all the time cause they are too lazy and the internet is available. Maybe they will compensate you for it since you can sue them for copyright violation haha.
Haha, riiiight, like I buy that excuse that they gave. What were they doing even possessing your picture in the first place?
Too bad it's impossible to prove that they made it up. Not that you could have squeezed any money out of them anyways.
My picture really isn't that hard to find. It's the first picture that comes up with you search for "ohio state marching band" in Google images, and I think I get most of the hits on my blog because of that one picture :P
Ah well, I don't think it's worth hassling that much more than what I put into it.
Maybe you should add a small watermark to your photo. I'm sure someone else is going to borrow your photo without recognizing your work. But next time, you might not find out. 
yeah, don't let lazy journalists get away with it!
