Gravatar Kurdo (or anybody) ... What were the results of the "unofficial" poll--the one that asked Kurds whether they want to stay in Iraq or be independent?

Gravatar How do you feel about these results? Good, bad, indifferent, do-able?

Gravatar kurdo, why are you even reporting on the elections? i thought you said several times that you werent voting because of some lame reason.

Gravatar neat blog ! I loved seeing photos of kurds everywhere rejoicing in the elections. they have proved to the world and to us(iraqis) that they are leaders of peace and progress. best regards to my kurdish brothers and sisters.

Gravatar John I think there was a long debate on this blog about kurdo participating or not...he then decided to participate...i was happy to see that i myself encouraged many people to vote who thought that the elections bad but when you tell them about the good sides they will change their minds

Gravatar whether kurds thought before that they were not voting before it seems nearly all kurds did, and the best part is that we have won around 66% of the vote in Kirkuk, Kirkuk is kurdistan!!!!!

Gravatar I found a new enlgish kurdish blog.
you may like to introduce him .

http://sulaimaniya.blogspot.com/

(did you get my e-mail in your gmail)

Gravatar oops ! you had linked him before...

Gravatar "as a Kurd from Iraqi Kurdistan and living in Kirkuk I want to thank all those who helped us in doing this democracy game..

I would say thanks to you people for doing it. We really need the whole world to be democratic, so that countries play football against each other instead of having wars.

(Of course we have to convert the Americans to real football too!)

Gravatar I just heard on the news that a certain group were conducting a census pro kurdistan independence. I find this a shame. After all we iraqis have been thru I would have thought that our kurdish brothers would work with us after the elections to strive for unity and national reconcilation. Ever since saddams fall kurds representation has been stressed in all areas of the government. I was proud to see the kurdish language used along with arabic in the election centers, in ballots etc. I wonder which other country where kurds reside in they enjoy all these rights ?? turkey ? iran? syria ? not in a million years. I must say I am very dissapointed. I guess the kurds will never feel as iraqi as the rest of the arabs shia and sunni, assyrians and turkomen do. such a loss......

Gravatar who are you to feel ashamed and why the hell do you think that we shiuld be grateful that you arabs have 'consented' to the use of our beutiful language on these forms we have the right to be able to raed what we are voting for just as you arabs do. Anyway i can tell you of a place were kurds have more rights than we do in Iraq its called kurdistan and will be decalerd in about 2 years.

Gravatar Anyway what have you arabs been through, you got the government you deserve, why were'nt you in the mountiains with us fighting Sodddom if you hated him so much , you either liked him or were cowards which one is it....Gees arabs!!!!!

Gravatar karwan my friend just a quick note to say you were not the only ones fighting saddam. A quick look at the iraqi opposition groups will tell u that iraqis of every race, sect and religion gave their lives to fight the tyrant or have u completely ignored the shia intifada of 91 ?? also i never said u should be grateful - these rights are urs and not charity. Anyways I dont want to ruin Kurdo's comment section anymore because this topic will bring no compromise. separatists will only see it their way and nothing else. Good luck. I only hope kurds in other countries reach to where u have come -though I doubt it- to help in the creation of your "country"

salamz

Gravatar a last thing karwan - shame on u for saying that we IRAQIS got the "government we deserve". Would you care telling that to the families of thousands of the victims that saddam hung, buried in mass graves or sent to torture in iraqi prisons. U make me sick.

Gravatar Samir I think the issue is not about suffering under Saddam's regime..

It is about the nature of Iraq, since 1920 all the Iraqi governments try to attack Kurds...

You guys say "Iraq is Arabic" but we are not Arabs...

That is why Kurds don't want to be part of Iraq because any new government comes they say "Iraq is Arabic" but sorry we are not Arabs therefor we are not part of your nation.
Remember even Ghazi Yawar and Ayad Allawi says that Iraq is Arabic and if you look at the adverts on Al-Sharqia most of the Arab parties say (Vote for us to keep Iraq's Arab identity)..

We are sorry we are not Arabs...what can we do ? It is not our fault that we are not Arabs...Ask Allah.

Regards from Kurdish Intellectual.

Gravatar Kurdo

congradulations on being quoted on BBC report

alan

Gravatar Samir, why do you want so badly to have kurdistan being a part of this 80 year old failure called iraq.. You call us separatists but look at yourself wanting to force people living in this iraq while the people have enough of this arabic domination.

"Ever since saddams fall kurds representation has been stressed in all areas of the government."
Yeah, dont forget the presidency we wanted..but didnt get, and also dont forget the refugees of kerkuk who are still living in tents.. dont forget the racism of sunni arabs who are forcing their kurdish neighboors out of cities like tikrit.

Gravatar alan
Thanks for the BBC Newsnight report.

Gravatar Hey guys! I know you've probably heard it before, but why not make Kurdistan like one of our states here in the US? Each state has its own government, its own laws. Yet, we also have to adhere to our Federal (or American) laws. We're individual (I'm a Tennessean), yet we're all still Americans...

Gravatar I dont want to still be iraqi i dont want to obey 'federal' iraqis laws-the arabs are fundamentalist and the kurds are secularist, how can we possibly ever agree on anything.

Gravatar karwan - ok good luck but if u think u will get ur kirkuk part of ur imaginary kurdistan u will find every arab, turkoman and assyrian at ur doorstep ready to throw u out on the turkish border so u can have some fun with the turkish junta. I am sure they will treat u better than us stinkin arabs.

Gravatar ascii........this is not the way to talk. We can only reach a common ground with our kurdish brothers via dialogue and understanding. Please calm down.

Gravatar ascii Kurds have won %68 of the votes in Kirkuk and some Arabs and Turkmens have voted for the Kurdistan list.

So if %68 of Kirkuk want Kirkuk to be part of Kurdistan you can go to hell.
Democracy Rules ! Not terrorism you terrorist.

Gravatar Dear Kurdish Intellectual,

Please bro try to understand me. I have NO problem with Kirkuk belonging to the Kurdistan province in a FEDERAL Iraq but for Kirkuk to belong to a future independant Kurdistan OUTSIDE Kurdistan is a big no-no my friend you can't force turkomen and arabic residents to live in ur country. And yes Democracy rules - and to hell with terrorists.....

Gravatar "you can't force turkomen and arabic residents to live in ur country"

We dont want the 10.000 dinar arabic settlers either in our country, they should go to their previous homes in the south. They are living illegally in kurdish houses right now and the former residents are living in tents for many years now.
About the turkomans, they have rights in the kurdistan federation (by language, schools, newspapers, representation in parliament) which they never got in iraq.

Gravatar abdur sorry i am turkomen and i would rather die than live in a kurdistan. i love iraq.

Gravatar but u know abdur i am not too worried because turkey, iran , syria and the united stated ur best friends will never let it happen in a million years. LONG LIVE IRAQIS ------ ANYONE WHO DOESNT LOVE IRAQ CAN PACK THEIR BAGS AND LEAVE
