Gravatar This is the stupidest idea. This would violate free speech on so many levels. The "Street Address"? Is this loon crazy? This would actually increase violence and needless lawsuits. Rep. Couch says there is "bullying". It's a very small percentage of online posting.

I wonder if anybody in his area is blogging or posting comments against him. Maybe that's who he is ultimately trying to silence.

absurd thought -
God of the Universe says
outlaw most bloggers

license all the rest
monitor their writing

Gravatar You statist pricks make me sick. Screw Tim Couch and screw you. Boo hoo if Tim Couch can't take criticism he is a repesentitive... if he can't take the heat he needs to get off the stove. Thats what healthy American democracy is about... discent... it is oil in the political machine.

Gravatar It's just sad that Tim Couch doesn't know that posts and emails can be tracked back to their original source quite easily in most cases. Therefore the state doesn't have to resort to stopping the original post to dissuade netbullying behavior. In fact, the posts become prima facie evidence of the bullying.

Gravatar Don't you just hate them anonymous posters?

Gravatar Legislation that should be enacted is the requirement that all elected officials in both houses submit to random drug and alcohol tests like almost every other person in the country.

Gravatar I want his job, getting paid to be a moron.
Hey, I heard some internet users were on steroids. We should spend some more tax- payers dollars and investigate them.

Perhaps Sir you should become anonymous.

Gravatar I was suprised and ashamed to see Tim Couch is a republican. He sounds more like a nanny state liberal playing the victim card. Oh, but of course hes just doing it for the children...it takes a village and all that crap.

Gravatar Just how does each individual website determine what's an "offense"? How does one define "bullying"? It's up to the discretion of the webmaster? Admin/moderators? What makes them qualified to distinguish between bullying and not? How is the poster insured these moderators aren't biased, power abusers etc? And what of online diaries and support forums/blogs. The mentally ill, the physically abused, or those simply wishing to vent frustrations would all be required to risk loss of job, friends, social standing because of this law?

This sounds like if they actually were able to leapfrog a host of privacy protection, and freedom of speech laws within our constitution, and make this nonsense law, there'd be a whole lot of empty web forums/blogs in Kentucky.

This bill is ill-conceived/lacks common sense. The implications of such a law, are far reaching and much more broad than the initial agenda to curb cyber-bullying considered.

Gravatar Believe me or not but I always thought US is a free country. Your war against "no existing terrorism" made cracks in my mind. This is a easiest way to surveillance everyone. And now Tim Couch entirely destroyed my vision of America. How you can say polish are stupid if there is a man like Tim Couch?

Gravatar Our founding fathers wrote the Federalist Papers under pseudonyms. Alexander Hamilton wrote under the name of Publius. Those opposed to the ratification of the Constitution wrote under the names Cato, The Federal Farmer and Brutus. They obviously felt you should be able to write under an assumed name.

Gravatar Can we file a class action lawsuit against these two sponosors on behalf of the people of the state? They get 60 days to do legislation and they spend it doing this?

Why don't they spend it reducing car emissions or giving us rights instead of taking them away?!?!?

Gravatar I think he is 100% correct. I hope his bill passes.

Gravatar CDT has a remark that I found dryly hilarious:

The proposed Kentucky law is particularly dangerous because it not only requires the unmasking of all speakers in all circumstances, it exposes their personal information to potentially millions of people, putting privacy at risk. And since it is the website, rather than the individual, who is on the hook for fines, it puts all Internet sites in the role of gatekeeper, exactly what Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, 47 USC § 230 was intended to prevent.

It ’s no small feat to draft a law that is unconstitutional, clearly preempted by federal law and unenforceable. But many state legislatures are in session and it’s only Tuesday.

Gravatar Oh, one thought occurs to me. I really need to set up a server farm and offer a discount for Nevada incorporation.

Then every blog and interactive site in Kentucky will have an alternative to monitoring every post and running background checks to ensure that people are who they say they are.

Gravatar Graphictruth: Tim Couch; Is he a Pedophile, an Idiot, or just a Republican?

"Rep Tim "Creepy" Crouch wants to "keep your children safe" by ensuring they aren't harassed by "online bullies."

He intends to do this in such a way as to make sure that any pedophile with a website will have a legally unassailable reason for collecting your child's personally identifiable information. Oh, and yours too. Just in case they also happen to be into credit fraud."

Gravatar WOW..I think some people are stupid..YEAH YOU. anyone can have a well traveled path and get hurt by the way side. WHATS YOUR PROBLEM..with Tim Couch.
