Gravatar OK, you are throwing PVC's (pre-ventricular contractions of the heart). That's where the contraction impulse sparks somewhere else in the heart muscle than the node where it's supposed to. Then, all the heart muscles do what they are programmed to do, and fire as the spark cascade passes over them. However, since it came too soon, it causes a too-long pause afterward and the atria (upper chambers) over fill from the lungs during that time.

Then the atria supercharge the ventricles (lower, major pumping chambers)

That's the first thing you feel.

Then the ventricles super-pump all of that overfill out.

You feel the hell out of that.

Then that scares you.

Adrenaline shoots into your blood.

And your heart races for a while.

Common causes:

#1 Low potassium levels

#2 high stress causing high adreno-corticosteroid levels.

Then there's everything else that could be stressing the heart muscle itself. And that could be anything from a virus to clogged arteries to constricted pulmonary flow to hypertrophy of the heart muscle.

I'd put $50 on #2 with a $20 side bet on some medication you might be on causing #1

*hugs*

Good luck on the tests.

Gravatar Yep, I was going to say the first thing he said about the PVCs, because my mom did that, too. Just want to make sure that you don't have mitral valve prolapse. I'm assuming the doctor would recognize it, but ... you may want to ask ...

Hang in there. This reminds me of the eye twitch I had in June 07 that lasted for an entire month. NO reason other than stress. Can't imagine why my eye isn't twitching now, to be honest. Of course, the constant urge to throw up is there ... but, hey ... no twitch.

Keep me posted. Good luck. Relax. Ha.

Gravatar Hey, I have the heart running like it's crazy thing too and it seems to be stress related. four years of wanting to choke the living shit out of some of the people I work with and not being able too was messing with me.

Hope you get better. We can do yoga instead of lunch! HA!

Gravatar Gadfly: And, another $5 on the fact I won't ever understand what you wrote.

AoM: I'll prolly call you today or tomorrow about that.

Blue: Like we're ever gonna have lunch! *harumph*

Gravatar Yoga? Someone actually suggested yoga to Labkat. If you could see me, you'd notice my eye twitching too. Only because I'm holding back the laughter.

[runs before the hammer flies]

Gravatar Eeeek! *throws masses of destressing heart-slowering-down dust over you*

PVC is only ever good on boots...very high heeled ones...

Gravatar Yeah, good luck on that "relax" bit.

If it's any consolation, my mother suffers the same condition and is 93 years old.

Keep yer chin up, dearie - they'll get to the bottom of it all.
