If the intranet is just a community announcement board, perhaps Kelleher's language was too strong -- "human garbage," "sub-human", etc., are all very strong phrases. However, if it was a discussion Board, and Kelleher was not cursing, threatening or being obscene, there does not seem to be a valid reason to remove his posts, despite their somewhat powerful imagery.

Actually, I find these phrases pretty strong, even for a discussion board.
In any case, he'd have had a much stronger case if he'd just stuck with the facts, calmly discussing his position without using strong language.

LaderaLife is a discussion board, and of course, Context is everything. In the posts immediately following my "garbage" post, a few folks chided me about "who was I to decide what was "mainstream". I came back with a post titled "mea culpa" in which I agreed that it was wrong for me to call for the the original anti-Christian poster's message to be removed. I felt that it was important that she have the right to post what she wanted, as long as her posts could stand the light of day and some well deserved criticism.
The LA Times neglected to write in the article about the posts from one rabidly anti-Christian resident who said that he wanted to "abort Saddleback" (my church). The proprietors of the messageboard "determined that the posting was not inappropriate" (their own words). Here's a little more context.
