The problem is that Hollywood is no longer marketing to U.S. audiences - 75% of their revenues come from overseas and this type of anti-American propaganda sells very well. Here, we know that these movies are crap. Overseas, people believe them at face value. Thus does Hollywood feed anti-American hatred.

An excellent point, Danny. I've been meaning to post on that sometime, when I have a chance to compare foreign and domestic boxoffice.

Hi Laer, Great post.
While it's true these movies are tanking in terms of the box office, they make enough money overseas
(as Danny pointed out) and with the leftist audience at home on DVD and cable to make enough of a profit so that they will keep being made, while the makers of this mental porn can congratulate themselves for being `edgy' and `progressive'.
There's a certain market for this stuff, and that's what they're targeting, and they could care less about any potential harm done to the country.
I actually think this started long before Michael Moore, back in the post Vietnam era. One harbinger of all this is that Jane Fonda and others of her ilk escaped prosecution for treason, which made the kind of propaganda we see coming out of H'wood today a no risk proposition.
All Best,
ff

Here is the 2006 report on Jarhead's performance in Europe:
Jarhead was mixed at the beginning of its foreign campaign. Aside from a strong German debut, the warless war movie wasn't impressive. Openings like Spain's $891,669 from 220 screens, Mexico's $345,586 from 180 screens and Poland's $101,282 from 43 screens were mediocre at best. German-speaking markets showed greater interest. In Germany, Jarhead grossed $1.7 million from 320 screens, which ranked fourth in a crowded market. Austria ($303,625 from 46) and German-speaking Switzerland ($136,481 from 20) were just as good. Overall, Jarhead's nine-nation launch garnered $3.8 million.
Box office drops at least 50% after the opening week.
The reason for the atrocious movie releases recently are many: (1) BDS, (2) The apparent decline of scriptwriting ability, both to draft and select. Many compelling anti-war movies have been made since the 1930s. But most were built on sympathy and understanding for the characters. Storytelling skills in Hollywood have almost disappeared. (3) The proportion of box office receipts from foreign sales has increased, but Hollywood can't seem to figure out that the customers worldwide are not the snotty intellectuals, but real people who work and want to enjoy the infrequent moviegoing experience watching compelling stories, just like in the U.S.
It will be interesting to see what kind of movies will be made celebrating Saint Hillary if she is elected in '08 (God forbid). I suspect we will be bombarded by a different type of unwatchable movie.
