A good compromise restores the peace and enables both parties to go about their business with some element of their vital interest satisfied.
The politicians always seem to forget that their wealth and power only exist in a situation where the people will not rise up and kill the politicians. They have forgotten their place in the hierarchy of things and have raised themselves beyond their station.
The US Constitution protects them, so they should protect the US Constitution. Both from domestic enemies like themselves as well as foreign enemies that do not obey the spirit that the US Constitution embodies.
Politicians are creatures of the Deal. Therefore they do not readily understand how someone could be willing and eager to destroy everything rather than cut a deal. They do not understand because the station of politicians is to make deals, not win wars.
Evil doesn't compromise.

Erm. They aren't spreading Islam by the sword. Iraq is already full of Muslims, who don't really need converting. As is Afghanistan. As is Saudi, Egypt, Pakistan and all of the places where they are actually active.
How on Earth are they supposed to spread Islam in the US? What would it take to get the Southern Baptists to lay down their crosses and pick up a Hiljab?

Shia Muslim is not seen as the true faith to Sunni Muslims. And Al Qaeda sees any Muslim using democracy or satellite tv as being not fully true to Islam.
How on Earth are they supposed to spread Islam in the US?
By creating enclaves in which shariah law, not US law, reigns supreme. As they did in England and France. Under shariah law, you must convert or die.
