There needs to be an inquiry into the conduct of this election. The VEC have stuffed it up badly all round from what I hear.

Colin Barry should resign or be sacked. Just because he runs the VEC doesnt make him unaccountable for this disgrace. Resign or be sacked you pitiful little man.

I posted my comment in the wrong spot, but I wanted to say that a western metro MP has been accused of Bribery in a local paper. The MP concerned has stated that he will seek legal advise, however if this is true, a sitting MP bribing an opponant, then surely the VEC would be taking this seriously and investigating sooner rather than later.
How embarresing for the sitting MP if they are guilty of this and then have to explain to the community that elected them that they were in the wrong. It migght literally be the catalyst for many more MP's to see the wall at the end of the tunnel.
However if the accuser is incorrect and cannot verify the accusation then they may very well have signed their own death warrent.
I have heard for a long time of 'messages' being given to people to 'watch their backs' and 'we know where your kids go to school' etc.
Cant these people get a life?
Andrew, are you able to shed any light on this?

What's up with everyone; the VEC always recount in close ones, and not much will change in the Victorian landscape as the ALP are pLAying off the Greens and the DLP.

Colin Barry uis no longer the Chief Commissioner. He took a position in NSW. The person responsible for teh disgraceful conduct of this electon count is the new Chief Commissioner Steve Tully. Mr Tulkly has limited experiance being a former Electoral Commissoner for South Australia. His refusal to ensure that the conduct of the election was open and transpent has brought himself and the VEC into disrepute. Yes there is a newed tfor a serious review of the VECF and its operations. millions of daolllras has been spoend in duplicating services already provided by the Australian Electoral Commission and developing new software.
Given the disgraceful and poor quality of the election count. The VEC should be required to undertake a recount of Western Victoria until it has confirmed the same result at twice. Anything short of that would leave the VEC open to questions of doubt as to the integrity, quality and professionalism of their conduct of the election . I have been actively involved in scrutiny of public elections for over 30 years and this would have to be the the worst unaccountable conduct of an elections I have ever seen. Steve Tully must be held accountable along with the VEC’s senior staff. Its time we seriously consider having one single independent professional electoral authority as opposed to this current group of amateurs. Steve Tully MUST resign or be sacked.
