Twas the Herald Sun which did it, took Kavanagh's words where they weren't spoken to go.
Kavanagh wants to defend the rights of all individuals as individuals, whether workers or unborn or individuals in whatever partnership, such as buddies, old sisters, individuals in a sexual or nonsexual relationship.
And where two such individuals get together, make a permanent lifelong commitment indinding to generate children in a context of love, without the absolute necessity of a lab technitian, Kavanagh reckons special couple legal status is appropriate, since a country and individuals in it depend uniquely on such couples of individuals.

The DLP are back in town. Let's see if they can run with some issues and expand their representation. It shouldn't be that hard if they're smart, but are they?

Andrew it is preferential voting that saw the Greens in NSW and the DLP elected in Western Victoria.
It is the preferential system that sees major political parties benefit also in the same way as minor parties.
All of the major parties have the same chance of electing a candidate with a low percentage of the primary votes. Most benefit from the transfer of preferences resulting from a surplus of votes and some also benefit by preferences transferred as a result of an exclusion.
Overall Australia's preferential proportional representation is one of the best and fairest systems in the world. Much fairer system then first-past-the-post or party list systems.
That is not to say there is not room for improvement, there most certainly is requirement for further reform.
The method of calculating the surplus transfer value and the method of segmentation used in the distribution of preferences from an excluded candidate must be revised. Under the current rules some votes are allowed to increase in value at the expense of other votes. The rules that are in place and used by the VEC are outdated and with the use of computer based technology should be reviewed and changes made. We need to ensure that the system is one vote - one value.
There should also be a requirement that should the results of an election change as a result of a recount then the Electoral Office should be obliged to undertake a further recount to ensure that the revised results are not due to further errors in the processing of the data.
The November State Election was one of the worst managed elections in recent history and the number of mistakes in the data quality and data processing can not be excused or dismissed as just being an error. The VEC should have undertaken a rial balance to determine that the total vote recorded match the number of ballot papers that had been issued and received back prior to pressing the Go button. Analysis of the limited information that has been published shows a significant discrepancy in the total number of ballot papers in each count. The total number of ballot papers should have been the same between the first count and the recount but they were not. The VEC failed to implement basic checks and balances in each count.
The identified problems associated with the election also raise concerns about the role and management of Steve Tully, Victoria's Chief Electoral Officer. Mr Tully has refused to publish and make available to the public details of the election results including the BTL preference data files.
The VEC also failed to public polling place statistics which are normally published and where published in during the last State election and the 2004 Senate election.
With the advent of the Internet there is no excuse for the VEC to not publish this Information. the internet is the ideas tool to ensure that our election are honest, open and transparent.
In the end it is Mr Tully that must accept res

Good morning Andrew.
Can you assist me with some information "was not one of the Green candidates a member of staff or a director of Going Solar?" I read it somewhere on the Internet but could not remember where. Maybe one of your readers can provide the details.
Thanks in advance. PS I love your site, very informative
