The Libs in Parliament House Canberra trundled out John Howard today in some weird celebration. His nutty Attorney General (whose name I forget) was also there - his own family rejected him three years ago.
The Libs don't seem to realise that seeing these people on TV just reminds everyone why they voted them out last November. The Libs today put Tony Abbott on tele at the drop of a hat, even if he is probably the most reviled of all the Howard remnants.
The horrible truth is that the Howard government damaged this country in deep, fundemental ways. The selling off of public assets to their mates was only one of the many reprehensible, probably criminal things they did in secrecy.
Lib spin-doctors, please keep reminding us of the Decade of Disgrace and the loathesome politicians (who should be in jail) but who still are paraded as heroes on tele today.

Despite the current global chaos (partly caused by the Libs devotion to greed in this part of the world), the Howard government was the most rapacious and ugly of any post-war Australian government. Like many Australian governments they had lost track of what government means. It does not mean public private partnerships, it does not mean heaping extra taxes on taxpayers. It means providing Australians with a better future. Under the Libs, the only people who did better were the companies given free kicks by the Libs...
Maybe the political slogan for Penny Wong's idea at the start of this page could be:

Lateline had Senator Helen Kroger on tonight. All she can contribute are privileged Toorak prattlings especially after only two weeks in the job. Her pre-selection and election show that the Liberal Party just doesn't get it. Her gushing defence tonight was for keeping Rolls and Ferraris cheap enough for the super privileged.

Answer me one question. Why should anyone be punished for choosing how they spend their own money - which has already been subject to income tax?
If Person A buys three cars, each costing $50,000, no luxury car tax is payable.
If the same Person A instead decides to buy one super-expensive car costing $150,000, this person will have to pay the disgraceful Luxury Car Tax.
Why?
BTW, Person A is already paying income tax at a marginal rate of 46.5% (adding the Medicare levy) and is probably subsidising your dole payments.
The LCT should not even exist.
The only reason why it does exist is that when the GST was introduced and a host of other taxes were repealed, the Howard Government remembered the shameful politics of fear and envy played by the ALP when the Coalition proposed to abolish penal taxes on so-called luxury calls in Fightback!
Fearing that the ALP would again play filthy Marxist politics it decided to compromise tax reform for the sake of getting relected and included the LCT in the GST package.
Ther is NO justification for a LCT - let alone for increasing it further. Kevin Rudd proved yet again his claim to be an economic conservative is an ABSOLUTE LIE when his Government proposed to increase the LCT on budget night.
