104 HQ did not have all these problems when the State Director and Presidents position had people like Pogolli, Carson, Baillieu, Georgiou in them. Remember the last great campaign of the Liberals "The Guilty Party" campaign that finished off the Kirner Government in 1992.
The Guilty Party (VIC Lib), It's Time (ALP) and Keep the Bastards Honest (Dem) are the 3 great campaign slogans of my adult life time.
Interestingly after the Dems dropped their slogan, for political correctness reasons, they went down hill to extinction.

I rang the PM's office in 2001 and said what is the plan when we run out of pertol in 50 years time. The male STUFFER bright spark said we will find more. I think I had a handle on this issue before anyone in Australia.
When I was a Liberal the often experienced electorate campaign committee would have to get approval for tactics from 104 HQ which in reality was one of the pimply faces. After a 2 day delay approval was usually given but in some cases it was to late to get the best effect or after the press deadlines. Thank boys !!
