The OC // Andrew Landeryou's Blog of Freedom

Gravatar Andrew,

In a similar vein - have a look at this link from the mainstream Left blogosphere and ask yourself if this doesn't take freedom of speech to a level that invites dicussion.

Fortunately the attached comments indicate that not all the readership supports the editorial decisions:

Gravatar Kevin, yes it's disturbing DailyKos'd run something so crazy. Everyone who has an issue with Israel is probably a supporter of the underdog. I can respect that. What I can't respect is blind hatred of one country above all else. And I can't respect those who don't understand that the Palestinian cause embodies many thing the Left could never accept while there's much about Israel they would love (many more sandal-wearing hippies and tree-huggers than even in the People's Republic of Brunswick) if they would only open their eyes to see.

Much of anti-Israel commentary is clearly only slightly rebadged anti-Semitism, as Barry so eloquently pointed out.

You can feel sympathy for the plight of the Palestinians without blaming or hating Israel. I feel great sorrow for them but if they keep electing lunatics, if they keep being obsessed with destroying their neighbours, if they keep brainwashing their young to encourage waves of suicide bombers, they can only look forward to more of the same pain.

They need to stop looking at Israel for solutions and start looking in the mirror.

Gravatar That was a beautiful article.

Gravatar Amen, Barry.

Gravatar I understand and agree completely with this article, Andrew, and like anyone who has actually thought about the history of the country and its people I support Israel and its efforts to gain security for its citizens. Both Jews and Arabs enjoy the advantages of living in Israel, and so many people forget that it is more than just 'the Jewish state', even though it simplifies things to label it thus.

However, I do feel the need to express my amusement at the use of the word 'anti-Semitic' to describe Arabs. Has anyone realised that Semitic describes the language family of the Middle East, including both Arabic AND Hebrew? Interesting, huh.
