I don't feel obligated to comment on blogs at all. The great thing with blogs is that you can read them pretty much anonymously, and that there are no obligations at all.

Having said that, I sometimes do leave a (quick) note, when I think I have something to say. And when I can find the time; another thing with blogs is that you can read them anywhere anytime, so you're not always able to comment.

I think it's good to let people know that you're dropping by, but...sometimes there's nothing to say, I guess. Maybe you should look at it this way. Do you like reading the comments left on your blog? If so, be sure to leave some on others'.

I don't think commets should be obligatory at all. Blogs that are made public have opened themselves up for readers and/or lurkers. Comments should not be required or expected.

However, I find that lately I have tried to comment more just so people know someone is taking the time to read their posts.

Sometimes, I have wanted to comment on various blogs BUT the word verification is on and screws up. Or, if I am at work, I don't have time for all the word verifications so I just read and move on. Also, I have come across several sites that want you to JOIN or LOG-IN before allowing comments. I don't feel I should have to do that so I don't, lol.

We only post when we have something to say, which may seem all the time, but we do read and not comment sometimes, just because we don't always have something to say. Whew...

I like people commenting on my blog a lot, and sometimes I get a little bit radgy when they don't - it's the exhibitionist in me. But I know that's hypocritical of me too as often I don't comment. Sometimes I hae little to say, sometimes I have little time, but I always try to make a point to come back and comment loads when I can
