Gravatar I'm glad Sugar is doing (more or less) ok. I hope her scabbiness will perhaps go away in time, although I agree a buddy might help. But then again, she's been alone for so long, so I don't know if she'll accept a cage mate. (Not that I have any experience with this.)

Cuddles for Sugar from me, Pancho & Lefty.

Gravatar Thanks Tale. I'll pass those cuddles along to her.

Gravatar Aww, poor little Sugar! I think the scratching/barbering probably is down to loneliness, so maybe a buddy or two would be a good option. Does are easier to into with although as she has been on her own for some time it might take you a little while. Best bet is probably to get two little babies (intros are easier with babies) and then at least if Sugar hates them you won't then have another on its own. Also, the babies will play amongst themselves, so that will reduce the possibility of them annoying Sugar.

Gravatar Hey Sham,
Thanks for the ideas. I'll see if I can talk J into getting 2 babies. They are so dang cute, though. Sugar is doing ok; it's just those 3-4 scabs she gives herself every week. I do want her to be a happy rat.

Hope your boys are doing well. xx

Gravatar I don't know if this will help, but have you checked for mites causing the scabs. Some rats are more susceptible to them that others. I know my albino rats have always had huge scabs with mites moreso than my other ones. Tell Sugar our ratties say HI and hopes she finds a furriend soon if she can handle one.

Gravatar Hi Fluffy Tribe and Mom Jane,

I did check for mites; it was so long ago I forgot. Thanks for reminding me! I'll check her again, just to be sure.

Thank you for the well wishes, sweet ratties. Sugar does like looking at the pictures of you guys! She feels like she knows you.

Gravatar Awww, bless her! I know Sugar is one lucky little lady. I find Pocky is very susespitable to mites too, and I heard that if rats were the runt of the litter (which my big pew lump was) then they will ALWAYS be more suseptable and may only ever be treated, rather than cured. I spent an hour last night gently scratching Pocket's scabs and he was soooooo happy. And that's a bit gross really isn't it!
xxx

Gravatar That's what love is all about, Sham. Doing gross things that make them happy. Weird enough, Sugar likes her scabs scratched too. When I noticed that I figured they itched and that's why she was re-opening them. So we tried the moisturizer and humidifier, and it didn't seem to make any difference.

To be fair, she is much, much better than when we got her. I've checked again for mites and she's clean.

Ah, the joys of owning ratties. xxx

Gravatar "Best bet is probably to get two little babies (intros are easier with babies) and then at least if Sugar hates them you won't then have another on its own."

I fully agree with the above. A rat mostly is much happier with other rats around. Loneliness can cause al kinds of strange behaviour. I understand that Sweet Sugar has been alone for quite some time and that might cause some trouble with an intro, but I think you should try it!

Hugs for Sugar and thank you for visiting De Rattenherberg (The Rat's Inn! Please come again soon

Gravatar Hi Cisca,

Thanks for stopping by and your advice. I've started looking for a pair of sisters, but we don't have any ratteries around here and I don't want more pet shop rats. I've also got to work my magic and talk J into getting 2 more! LOL

Take care!

Gravatar Rats are colony animals and should not be kept alone.
