Okay, what's a caper? I mean really. Is it a fruit? A vegetable? Do capers really have any taste besides the stuff they float in?

capers! They're buds from a spiny shrub, which looks to have a gorgeous flowers.

I always thought they were nasturtium seeds! And they taste really good -kind of mustardy and tangy (though that might be the vinegar)

Marianne...nasturtium seeds are often used as a substitute for capers!
And capers are of the same botanical order (one up from family) as the cabbage/broccoli/mustards!

I used to be very anti-any recipe that had "caper" as a featured ingredient (i.e. in it's title). Which was very unusual for me b/c I am not a picky eater at all, never have been. But I LOVE them now. They are such a delicious flavor!
