Any chance that, to avoid your lunchtime woes, you could take, for example, sunflower sandwiches to work? Then you'd know what came from where, as well as saving yourself a packet.

I actually think I made up for my slippage, at least a little, by proselytizing to the cafeteria guy. Maybe next time I'm at the legislature I'll go ahead and speak to my (admittedly lefty) representative and senator about sustainable ag and small farmers.

As to the sunflower sammies, well the bread is actually here in my office! It's the lack of filling that makes the problem. Maybe some cheese? Hm. Not a bad idea. But at any rate, yesterday it was more of a combination of social situation and lack of willpower (I was Hon-Gray!), and a bag lunch wouldn't have been particularly appropriate among all the gub'mint peoples. Or at least that's what was going through my head!

$6.47 just for lunch, btw! Add onto that the two slices of bread for breakfast ($.25), the mustard greens ($2?) and the asparagus ($1) and I actually kind of made it close to the budget. Hm.

A cheese sandwich is a good idea. I had one for lunch the day before yesterday. Do you have any homemade pickles kicking around? That makes it feel more special...to me, at least.

HELL, yeah. This statement is a Universal Truth, with or without any Eat Local Challenge. A cheese sandwich is never not a good idea. I want to see Jamie's truism stitched on a sampler, or carved in marble in the rotunda of our state legislature.

Does our state legislature even have a rotunda? I am not sure. Let's get right on that, after we have some cheese sandwiches.
