It's a really interesting episode, Ox. I really like how they apply the scientific method to testing a theory. Mythbusters gets my vote also for the same reason.
The carbon mesh that they are using is currently used to line tunnels, so it's a neat new application of an existing product. That is what I do and really enjoy - applying technology in new ways.

Ya know Angel there have been a few. I've been hearing a lot about Hog Island disappearing during a hurricane in 1938. During the hurricane conference they kept repeating to "Run from the water and hide from the wind." At least in New York you can do both at the same time. Just go up. 
I really don't think there will be a problem if a hurricane hits the city unless some idiot tries to evacuate the city, then there will be a mess.

Have a look at our attempt at a hurricane proof house, this is Phase II of the project and Phase Ii got a direct hit from Hurricane Ivan and no damage...so far so good. We have photo journaled the construction process.
