I'm not really sure what your point is Rosemary. I've posted previously of my respect for Max Mayfield. The NHC's job is to forecast the formation, intensity and tracking of topical storms and hurricanes as they develop. I wonder if you might be confusing the National Hurricane Center with the organizations that predict how many storms we will have each year. Different groups and different functions.

The NHC has provided very accurate forecasts of what storms are doing. Even with the director between Mayfield and Read, Bill Proenza, the NHC was spot on. His problem was he aired the organization' dirty laundry in public and the politics got him. I'm not so sure that he was wrong but by going public it ruffled feathers and he might have been more effective with a different approach. Just like most of us deal with.
