Gravatar Wow! What an awesome family heirloom! Definitely you should make something usable out of it. Knits are meant to be used.

This is funny ... my grandparents and great-grandparents on my mom's side were from Tennessee! Sevier County, to be precise about it.

Love your dishcloths too!

Gravatar Oh, you should definitely make 2 "his" washcloths!
Wow, that's really heirloom knitting! It's funny how it's like a Pompei artifact: frozen in mid row...

Gravatar What a wonderful treasure, heirloom knitting. You have to make something useful out of it, must be used or otherwise all your great grandma's work is wasted isnt it. I love the idea of his and hers dishcloths too, and I agree make two for his so you can knit instead of washing up. Wish that would work in our house, but alas I always wash and my son dries, though constantly complaining about it.

Gravatar That's really neat to have something so special from your great-grandmother! I mean, think of the time she put into those knitting them on #00!
The washclothe is really fun!

Gravatar Definitely make something out of the squares. It's then a useful heirloom and not just a collection of squares!

Gravatar What a wonderful piece of heirloom! I agree that you should make something useable out of them. It must be quite a feeling to be knitting something that was started decades ago.

Oh, and I love your dishcloth! Yes, you should make two of his

Gravatar My first thought was, what if I put all of that work into something, and then no one used it? I'd definitely vote for using the squares for a pillow, that's exactly what I would have made it into.

Nice 'his' dishcloth! I'm voting for two 'his' cloths, too =) Thanks for joining the contest. I love your cloth idea!

Gravatar Ditto - use them! Unless you like to inherit heirlooms in pieces...
My inclination would be to use them as the center of an afghan. That way you could cuddle with it and keep warm with Grandma's love and work. Please let blogland know what you decide.

Gravatar WOw! What a fantastic discovery. I find that last square fascinating. Why did she stop in the middle of the row? Did someone interrupt her? What was going on then? How interesting to imagine all the possibilities.

I would keep that unfinished square and use the other ones for a pillow or as part of something else...

Gravatar Use and enjoy!

Gravatar I have got to try some shadow knitting, that is too cool. I think you finish the square, then block them to see if you can get them all the same size then make a pillow! GGma will be proud they're being used!

Gravatar I would use the squares to make a pillow. She'd definitely want it used. But I'd save the unfinished one, needles and all, and frame it. It's so much easier to feel the connection to the creator when you can see where she laid it down, needles in place, and can almost feel your own hands on the needles.

Gravatar I just love the his washcloth. Of course my husband wouldn't be able to see it. He's your very typical man. Ugh. I still love the idea.
