I'll be starting at Philadelphia University as a freshman next week and I'm really hoping that I get to meet Jay. I hope he teaches one of my classes.
This is a nice new feature. You have good interviewing skills.

Thanks for the interview. I appreciated that it was personal and not reporter-y. Don't apologize for not being journalistic!
I always love hearing Jay talk. He's so smart and funny and self-aware. Which brings me to the question I would want to have asked next time around...
It seems like funny people are the most often misinterpreted or misunderstood. Our perceptions of the verbal and non-verbal signals that go along with humor are so varied that people can't reliably interpret the intent of funny statements. Being a funny person who is in the public eye, what have you learned about that and has it affected your interactions with people in public situations?

bittybis, what an amazing question! Jay is soooooo funny and very smart. I will definitely ask that the next time. Really that is a great question to ask of any of these designers as most of them were private citizens prior to their appearance on Project Runway.

I can't wait to listen to this! The highlight of my weekend.
I (heart) Jay...I've always (hearted?) Jay...and hands down, he's still my fave from all four seasons!
Go Jay!

An absolutely wonderful interview, Scarlett! One of the things that makes an interview successful is getting, or letting, the interviewee talk, and that you did--32 minutes full of Jay McCarroll!
Full steam ahead with the podcasts, Team BPR!

Had a chance to listen to the podcast tonight. Soooo many questions & comments, so little time....
Questions:
1. Are you happy? Is life generally bringing you what you want?
2. How's Willow doing?
3. What's your cat's name and how is s/he doing?
4. Could you please, please, PLEASE never equate yourself in any way with that gross Andy Cohen? He nauseates me as much as Kit's Prom dress nauseated you (and more).
5. Where do you see yourself professionally in five years? What do you hope to be doing?
6. If you could choose any geographical locale to live & work, where would it be?
7. Could you please tell Austin Scarlett that we love him, but could he please eat a croissant or something? Seriously.
Comments:
1. Thank you for being a strong advocate for cruelty-free fashion.
2. I love that you're not cynical about your spiritual side, use of crystals, smudging, etc. Most people write it off as voodoo, and question the stability of those that use them. I love that you're not afraid of putting yourself out there. Kudos.
3. If you're looking for a great detox to help shed the negative physical and spiritual energy, I recommend smudging (wittershins--counter-clockwise) and then taking a bath using SuperHaji's formula: Just before going to bed, soak for a MINIMUM of 20 minutes in hot water (*as hot as you can tolerate*) with lavender and tea tree essential oils and epsom salts. Wear cotton sweats because you will sweat overnight.
4. QVC? Ugh. Thank you for selling eCommerce on your website. Happy to go there, but cannot bring myself to QVC. Sorry, dude. In your vernacular: gross.
5. Don't think of yourself as a guinea pig or a bridesmaid! You're v. 1.0--the basis upon which all others are copies. You're the original and the BEST. All flava, no bull. Love, love, love.
6. Honey, there's nothing wrong with having had to take a (Xanax) before your Bryant Park show. May I recommend if there's a next time, follow it up with a couple of mai tais? *mwah*
7. "Where else are you going to go (besides Phily)?" How about Seattle? Vancouver (BC)? Yeah, it's dark and rainy in the winter, but rare water shortages, fantastic vistas, amazing regional wines, and a relaxed, casual atmosphere that would embrace your style wholeheartedly. Oh, and lots of folks with disposable income. File that thought away, just in case.
8. CONGRATULATIONS on being cigarette-free (savior-free?) for two years! Mazel tov, baybee! (Glad the back's ok too.)

After listening to this interview, I listened to another podcast that was an interview with Fierce Christian. The people doing the interview were so clueless! They didn't even know that people audition for PR. Obviously their first time at the rodeo. BPR interview with Jay was miles above!

ScubaOtter, you are a way better journalist than I ever will be - your questions/comments are brilliant. I know from talking to Jay before and after the interview that he reads all of BPR including the comments so he will absolutely see what you have to say. Definitely next time we do a Jay podcast I will have people like yourself write in with questions! I'll admit that we hurried this feature on the blog because I was just so excited to actually do a podcast and I was just thrilled that he was able to take the time to do it. We really wanted him to be the first podcast and I hope that I made that clear to him - we asked ONLY HIM first!
I am beyond grateful that he did this podcast with us. And all of you have been so kind with this first attempt at the new feature. I promise that we will continue to improve it. As we say behind the scenes at BPR, "We're always in Beta."
