See, this is what is so weird to me about the beanballs...I, like you, had tremendous success with the cutlets - love them, love their texture, love their texture (yeah, said it twice - I really love their texture). AND! My first attempt with the cutlets was also my first attempt with vital wheat gluten ever. So, I don't understand those who diss the cutlets. Viva cutlets!

I think I'll try the beanballs again this weekend with your method and I will, indeed, report back. Thanks!

just sharing my positive experience after you mentioned the mixed responses in today's post. because of your initial celebratory post about the chickpea cutlets, i decided to make them a few nights ago. the end result was exactly as you'd described - easy to prepare and bursting with flavor. i've been craving them ever since and will likely them make them again very soon.

Gravatar the potatoes look great

Gravatar great idea to morph the cutlets into nuggets! I also feel a bit bad about talking v-con down in my last post, but I guess it's ok... it's just a cookbook after all.

Gravatar Those potatoes are awesome. I highly recommend using the "marinade" for tofu. It made the most amazing baked tofu! Yummy!

Gravatar The fact that I could click on that picture and subsequently enlarge it to enormous proportions -- filling my screen with its poopy goodness -- just made my day. Thank you.

But yeah, if you are trying to feed these to kids in nugget form, make sure and not mention the poop thing. Or there won't be any eating.

Kids are dumb like that.

Gravatar i made the chickpea cutlets last night (and ordered the cookbook as well)and they were easy, tasty and filling. i made a double batch and will be having more yummy leftover cutlets tonight!
i can't wait to get my cookbook and try more recipes.

Gravatar As I sat at my computer desk laughing so hard I almost peed a little, my 5yr old daughter spied the picture and asked "Momma why are u lookin' at poop?" I am gonna try 'em but she says no way.

Gravatar I have to say, my 'Nomicon experiences have not been all good. At least as many flops or so-so's as good experiences. I did make the cutlets, but I found the texture to be spongy and weird. I wished they were firmer. I actually preferred them when they were cold, just because of how it aided the texture.
Maybe I'll give the bean balls a go round... maybe not.

Gravatar I don't think I loved the potatoes. I liked them okay, but holy moley, that is waaaaay too much oil. If I make them again, I think I'll replace the vegetable broth with something else, too. But the chickpea cutlets turned out great! Nom-nom-nom. I'm glad I'm the only person brave enough to try vegan-anything in my family since now I'll have some leftovers. And they did go nicely with the potatoes, the potatoes just needed some tweaking for me.

Gravatar Brista: Actually I *JUST* made these again last night and thought the EXACT same thing about the oil. Holy mutha.

Gravatar hi,as you're vegan, and have boxing gloves, I'm guessing your boxing gloves are vegan.

Please could you post where you got them if they are.

Thanks a lot, Tom

Gravatar Tom: I'm actually not sure what post this comment is regarding, but I don't actually own boxing gloves, so I'm not sure where to go about finding vegan ones. Sorry!

Gravatar ok random, I decided to make chickpea cutlets tonight (I've made them before, LOVE em!!) & was googling for a good roasted potato recipe (simply using the term "roasted potatoes") and your blog came up. with the chickpea cutlets and everything. so very odd, but I think I may crack veganomicon & try those lemony potatoes too!! thanks for the good combo love your blog btw.
