Gravatar Cardinal Francis George of Chicago, arguably the most influential US Archbishop, will be saying prayers at the Chicago rally.

Gravatar we now have illegal aliens marching in the streets making demands to be made citizens. its time for immigration to start deporting these people. i know there are millions of them but we need to start deporting illegals and start enforcing our borders. this notion that these people cant be replace is obsurd. if we need entry level laborers im sure there is a waiting list of people who are seeking legal immigration.
this is totally out of hand and we the people need you as an elected official to start enforcing our laws. immigration to any country is a privilige not a right. in these perilous times we need to enforce our borders and immigration laws. the republican and democrat officials are doing nothing. we need the officials to give the immigration service the go ahead and the resources
to do their job of apprehending and deporting illegas in this country. the citizens of this country are going to rebel at the voting booth if our elected officials don't enforce our laws.

Gravatar Ventanita,

Great Post!
I would like to express my opinion on this "controversial and divisive issue" If you are Hispanic/Latino and believe in enforcing the laws and that there's a need for immigration reform, you are labeled as a "traitor", a "sellout", and even a "racist".
Then I can't help to wonder who's the "Intolerant"?
Even if difficult, we have to discern the real issue at hand and not allow our "sense of morals" keep us from doing what's right. We have to remain focused that the issue at hand is about illegal immigration and NOT immigration per se!
I believe that the intense and possible somewhat reaction to the demonstrations plus the "faux pas" of translating the "Star Spangled Banner", is mainly a reaction the attitude displayed by many. Their expressions of entitlement, of being indispensable, and almost arrogant sense of imposition, without regard to the existing laws in this country or its national pride and identity.

I take issue to the May 1st boycott, because there will be many "casualties" among the hispanic community as a result of it. When our economy is "sabotaged" ... we are ALL, impacted by it! Moreover, when I see the "leadership" behind this event, I don't see so much an honest concern and advocacy towards illegal immigrants. Instead I see many opportunists, who have a different agenda altogether. Left-winged, Socialist, and Communist organizations which share a common "hatred" for this country and everything it stands for.
May 1st or "International Workers' Day" — is a reminder to the ruling classes that their days are numbered...
"Though most of the "Great American Boycott" demonstrators would not see themselves marching in solidarity with the communists, the same would not apply to some of the boycott organizers and promoters.Communism is very much alive!!"

Gravatar Melek, I couldn't have said it better.

Thank you so much for your comment!

Gravatar I am not participating in the boycott, but I am not against it. Yes, the date could be better, but I think the influence of communism is greatly inflated. If you ask the vast majority of people participating in the boycott, I bet the majority have no interest in Communism.

I would post over at Babulu my opinion, but I saw the reaction that Boli got for stating a viewpoint different than the majority.

What we need is plan that strengthens border security, puts in place fines for employers and a way for the undocumented workers that are here now to come out of the shadows and become citizens.

We need a moderate plan like McCain/Kennedy and not things like the am radio blowhards here in Arizona who se plan consists of setting up shop on the border and shooting one of out ten people trying to cross the border as a deterrant. That is actually being debated here on Arizona radio stations.

Thanks for the forum Ventanita. Agree to disagree

The boycott unfortunately has rubbed people the wrong way; even people who like you are in favor of legalizing the illegals. And the involvement of ANSWER has not helped. Thanks for stopping by and for commenting without insults and accusations - behaving like a gentleman. Agree to disagree

Gravatar I have read some of the posts on babalu and at least there is something we can agree on....Cuban food... (Well, besides the fact that the hijo de p... barbudo needs to die).

What I would give for a medianoche, batido de mamey and a pastelito right now. One of my favorite childhood memories is whenver my dad would come back from his many trips to Miami with boxes of Cuban sandwiches, media noches and pastelitos. My family would stuff ourselves while listening to the lastes Alvarez Guedes record he just picked up.

Sadly the food options here in AZ are a bit limited. Thanks again for the forum. I check your site everyday.

Don't get me started on the Cuban food...Thanks for visiting, I strive to be a true "ventanita"

Gravatar Angel,
I respect your opinion, although I disagree with some of your statements. You mentioned that you believe that the majority of the people participating in the boycott have no interest in communism. You may be right. However, many don't even know that what or why they are protesting. They become involved in the frenzy and emotional side of the issue and neglect to see that there's also a very rational side to it. We could go on and debate "individual or personal" motives for participating in today's event. One thing that's difficult to debate is the ulterior agenda behind some of the organizers of the boycott. They are opportunists, who share their "hatred" for the United States, who seize the moment and create a certain degree of chaos and division to attack Capitalism and the foundation of this country.
As to Communism ... Angel, it may have been "fragmented" or "shattered" to a degree after the fall of the Soviet Union ... but the "pieces" are everywhere waiting for the opportunity to come together and exist.
I wish you well! Melek

Gravatar Melek,

Honestly from what I have seen here in Arizona has been more a retaliation to all those that say "just send them all back to Mexico". I think the vast majority of those that participated-participiating in the boycott are only trying to make people realize how important they actually are to the average Americans every day life.

Just like you canīt discredit a the whole anti-immigrant movement by some racist elements, I donīt think you can do the same on the other side.

My wife works closely in the undocumented immigrant community and I can assure they are not Communists in hiding. They have true Capitolist spirit.

Like the guy putting in my sprinkler system in my house. He came over illegally, got amnesty in 86, worked for a landscaping company and then started his own. He asked to take the day off from the project at my home in solidarity of the boycott. I obliged. I donīt think he has a Communist bone in his body. I think the vast majority here in Arizona are like him.

I canīt vouch for what is taking place in other states, just here.
