Great post! Instead of heading these "changes" in Cuba as "reforms" ... a true headline from the MSM would be ... "Cuban government is gradually lifting its own internal embargo." The embargo which has been in place for almost 50 years, but the MSM and Castro apologists have justified or simply never denounced.
By pointing out these "reforms", they indirectly bring to light part of the everyday struggle and reality of the regular Cuban. All these items have always been available in the island, but only to those with enough dollars, foreigners and the government elite!
It's interesting that many of those who want to lift the US Embargo (let me reiterate that the Embargo has never included medicine or food), and accuse the US of doing something morally wrong ... are quick to justify the Cuban revolution, as a reaction to US interest and exploitation of the island.They praise that there are no McDonalds and other capitalistic symbols in today's Cuba. That is, from the USA, because the economic interests of Italy, Spain, Canada and other countries is very evident in Cuba. The bottom line is that in their "prejudiced" eyes, The US is the cause of all evils ... before the revolution, during the revolution, and God forbid ... a post-castro Cuba ... I read the other day an article where they were encouraging tourists to visit Cuba, while still "virgin" from US imperialism and capitalism ... go figure!!!
