Thanks to Richard Reid, thousands upon thousands of departing passengers have been made to take off their shoes at US airports. Not quite “nothing” to all those people embarrassed by the holes in their socks. Face it, that "Boys' Own Comic" bomb wouldn't have done more than warm his foot, in the unlikely event it ever detonated. But as a scare tactic it succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. Really put the frighteners on the US travelling public. But that’s US citizens for you: Nothing more important than keeping their skin whole. Risk taking is definitely not their forte. Presumable that’s why they love it and don’t leave it, because anyone with a conscience would hate it and leave it. Poor old Dick, what a retard. He didn't kill anyone, injure anyone, steal anything, cause any damage, but he got 80 years. Can you imagine the prisoners' bragging: “I was given 80 years.” That’s nothing, I got 1,000 years.” What’s next? Sentenced to remain in prison until the end of time? Surprise, surprise; you can’t do more than life (unless you’re Buddhist, of course, but then you’d be reincarnated as another person). Next time murder the judge; you'll probably do a lot less time. And what about the fine in the millions on a guy with some $200 odd dollars in his bank account. "Time to pay, judge." One foot in Fairyland and the other in jail: The lunatics are running the asylum.
