The current consenus from New Orleans as reported from the Time Picayune as well as WWL radio is that Blanco's special session really did not do much constructive and that it's "Louisiana politics as usual." Also it seems that even though levee boards will now be consolidated into two, the people they will serve still have little confidence in those involved. Nagin isn't the only politician who's shown incompetence, Blanco has failed Louisiana as well. In short, nothing will benefit New Orleans and Louisiana in general than a wholesale removal of the corrupted political system that has flourished in that state for decades. And the only source I see for exposing it and eliminating much of it is the Federal government. Unfortunately for N.O. and Louisiana in general, that's not going to happen.
I am not optimistic that much good will come out of this and the typical Louisiana political corruption will continue.
