"the French have caved into demands of demonstrators and rioters"
Aren't the demonstrators and rioters French too?

Nick:
That would be the government caving, not the people. I'll fix that in my next update.

Will we cave to the pro-illigal immigrant demonstrators?

You know who else " ... caved into demands of demonstrators and rioters who took to the streets ... "?
The British in the late 18th century.

Americans have become so meek that when we see a lower class fighting for their rights we don't know what to think. I don't agree with violence and destruction of property, but if American workers had a little more fight in them we wouldn't have the health care crisis that we do now. Or such high gas prices while oil companies make obscene profits.

And your point is?
The U.S. does not rule the world.
People in different countries will behave according to their history, customs, etc...
Who are you to pass judgement on the French people's anger? What do you really know about that employment law, or about French politics? "Rien du tout. "
Who are you to stand in judgement when you clearly have no clue about French culture and political history?
Your characterization of the French as being "Socialists" betrays your profound ignorance of the European political culture.
I certainly do not condone destruction of property, especially, the destruction of rare books. That is thuggery.
What I object to is your self-righteous approach to a problem that you clearly have no grasp upon.
I suppose that, at a time when your beloved Bush is hated by most of the country, you have to express your anger at some other people.
You clearly do not speak French, and you have no idea about the French culture, so, like the typical ugly American, you trash whatever you do not know. And there is a lot that, you, in your arrogantly crass ignorance, you do not know.
And if you think that your little fit about social unrest in France will distract people from the malfeasance of the Bush Administration, you are wrong.
So, to paraphrase Jacques Brel, "Je persiste et signe: Messieurs les Bushites, je vous emmerde".
