China will not recognize the Iranian threat because that threat is not directed towards China. For some reason, even though communism posses more of a threat to Islam than Capitalism, Capitalism is attacked and Communism is ignored. Now this is partially a reaction to the old adage “the friend of my enemy is my enemy.” Islam feels that Israel is their enemy (even though Israel is the only country in the middle east which would allow a protest in a soccer stadium in its own country to protest that countries very existence.)

The ideals of Communism run counter to the ideals of Islam (i.e., that the state should exist without religion.) Marx’s famous quote “religion is the opiate of the people” shows his distain for religion. As one web site has explained “Communism has rejected religion, but has still tried to tap into the human need for spirituality. In a way, they have created a new religion called Deification of the State. Infamous communists like Joseph Stalin and Mao Zedong used this new kind of religion to make people believe they were virtual gods. One would tend to think that given Islam’s distain for non-muslims, non-Islamist, that Communism would present a larger threat to their religion than Capitalism. However, It seems that Islam has directed its anger on Israel and any of its supporters, i.e., the U.S.A and England.

China should think long term. Who is it better off playing ball with, the Middle East or the U.S.A. More to the point, China should think what happens if the mad mullahs get to powerful and turn their attention to the 1 billion + people in China who are just waiting for a new religion to replace the “religion” of Communism. To them, Islam may appear to the be a breath of fresh air from Maoist Communism. Who will be China’s ally then?
