A Blog For All - Comments - Keep it civil

Gravatar I admit I'm surprised, but I shouldn't be. Nagin came across as a man of the people, despite his snaffu with the "chocolate city" comment, which was probably fine with most folks anyway.

Landrieu, on the other hand, may well have been identified in the public mind, fairly or not, with the administration of Governor Kathleen Blanco, for whom the residents of the city have lost no love.

Another thing, there has been a disconnect between the Crescent City and Louisiana state politics going back to at least the days of Huey Long. Both are corrupt rivals, and the people probably preferred to stick with the homegrown variety.

Gravatar On a bright note, we kicked out half the city council. Entrenched politicians were replaced by successful professionals.

For the people claiming that New Orleans has no interest in change, I'd like to know when your town last voted out half the city government?
