I would be more scared of false positives destroying the travel industry than the chance of a bomb being on a plane. It still is the safest form of transportation (statistically).

A high rate of false positives means that TSA spends most of its time on things that don't matter. But a high rate of false negatives means a lot of bombs that were not detected are going off on airplanes. Clearly, we want the false negative rate to be vanishingly close to zero.
What I think you were trying to say is that false positives have real costs, and the more we observe false positives the more likely we are to misconstrue a true positive as a false one, with disastrous results,
