It would have perhaps been more accurate to have written (Chavez) HAd been supporting them. He recently gave a widely reported speech that in which he said that the day of armed struggle was over.
Many are now also saying that a ransom had been paid.

Chavez continues to support undermining the Colombians by enabling FARC to operate across the border. That's tacit and open support of the terror group.
