This is all so stupid, of course. All you need is a single national primary.

The theory is that spreading out the primaries gives voters the opportunity to see how they do, winnows the field, and produces better choices.
The reality is that the states at the end of the primary season lose their ability not long after Super Tuesday because the frontrunner usually has more than enough delegates to win nomination.
A single national primary is intriguing, but I'm not sure if that would work in practice.
