"Thomas maintained is innocence, but that rings hollow as the two sides settled the case for $11.5 million and Saunders will drop the appeal and demand for attorney fees. The jury had found against Thomas, Dolan, and the Garden for creating an atmosphere of sexual harassment."
1) notice your typo (yes, kettle and pot have met.)
2) the more important thing is she dropped her $9 million plus claim for punitive damages, that is what made the payout a good deal for the Garden.

She gets the money right off the bat, and the punitives weren't a sure thing. The $11.5 million was.
Getting the issue to go away along with the pressure from the NBA itself was the reason that the Garden agreed. It was for the Garden's own benefit that they accepted this deal. If Dolan had his way, he would have continued to fight it, even if it ended up dragging the Garden and the NBA through the sewers with still more revelations about sexual misconduct at the Garden.
That was the last thing Stern and the NBA needed. They wanted this over.
However, unless someone is fired at the Garden, the cretins who were involved in the misconduct will remain.
