Writer Sujatha - Leave Your Memories

Gravatar A really intelligent writer. I really loved his work in Mudhalvan and also some of his literary work.

May God give his family the strength to cope up with this loss.

LKS

Gravatar LG,
thanks dude,
really a touching tribute thx on behalf of all the fly and well wishes.

The obsequcies are scheduled for Friday the 1st March.

Gravatar Sry
Friday 29th Feb i meant,

btw that was a good tribute-tribute.

Gravatar Kamal wrote that small piece of poetry on Ananthu.

I just changed it for Sujatha.

Gravatar Sujatha's contributions were remarkable.

He was the one to start with for any novice tamil readers. He know to feed all type of audience.

We lost an enthusiast. Let his journey be peaceful.

Gravatar May God give his family the strength. Loss for tamil literature.

Gravatar I have read only some portion of Sujatha's writings. But his diversity, his style and pioneering efforts have left an indelible mark in my heart. Words aren't sufficient to describe him.

Waiting to hear Kamal's reaction...

All film buffs out here: get his Thirakkadhai Ezhudhuvadhu Eppadi. Simple and brilliant, as always!

Hats off, LG! You did what I thought you would.

Gravatar I am an ardent reader of Sri.Sujatha(Rangarajan) since 1968. This void can never be filled. We are not going to see another versatile genius writer like this for a long long time.I pray Lord Arangan to give his family the strength to bear this irrepairable loss as well as for his millions of fans.

Gravatar hmmmmmmm.....

ennaththa solla?

Gravatar En iniya iyandhira, Srirangaththu Devadhaigal, Aen Edharkku Eppadi were are all gems from him. Am sure Sujatha would be a role-model for many current and future writers (tamil or otherwise). Avar pughazhal endrum nilaikkattum.

Gravatar May S. Rangarajan soul rest in peace, but writer Sujatha will be there always with us through his great contribution to Tamil.

Every Tamil hearts salutes his soul.

Gravatar May this great writer soul rest in peace.

Gravatar It could be a Personal loss to
all those who atleast spend an hour a week to read tamil literature. He was such a prominent writer in Tamil literary world.Be a serious reader or a casual one, they must have across Sujatha and must be feeling the loss.

Not only that he was good at writing, he was able to identify potential writers and encourage them.

His genius and versatilty are incomparable.

Gravatar Words fail me ! On seeing the ticker on Sun News yesterday night flashing that Sujatha is no more, I was disturbed. I always will consider him my greatest teacher. His works will be treasured for generations to come. I will always equate him with Isaac Asimov for his prolific output on all things under the sun.

Gravatar More than a prolific writer, he was a prolific reader. The versality of his reading never ceased to amaze me, until today.

It would not be an exaggeration to say that some of us learnt to love Tamil writings and the language itself thanks to his efforts more than anything else.

We will sorely miss him.

Gravatar Couldn't imagine he is no more.

Gravatar Words fail me.

May his soul rest in peace.

Gravatar My heart feels heavy ... i will miss his writings for sure.

RIP Sir.

Knowing him as someone who has done so much on earth, I'm sure he will do much more on heaven. Rest in Peace Sir.

Gravatar Shocking.

I pray God for his soul to rest in peace.

Gravatar it is the great loss for the writers and the fans (like me)

Gravatar Being a Tamilian frm Blore, I have never been able to read much Tamil, though I have always wanted to leanr Tamil to read his books. But have heard a lot abt the most prolific writers of our times in Tamil, its a great loss not just to the literary world but also to the filmdom. Wonder whom will Mani Ratnam, Shanker and Bharathiraja turn to now for their scripts.

Gravatar Shocking. Though I was aware of the fact that he was not doing well through Desikan's blog, this news came as a complete shocker to me. Words fail me when I try to express the kind of impact Sujatha has had on me. Rest in Peace Sujatha sir. We will miss you, forever.

Gravatar who will write book with our APJ???

We miss U Sir.

Gravatar I continued my reading, only because of him. I learned a lot, or to put it in a better way, it taught me a lot. Will miss him.

With tears,
Gops.

Gravatar Dear friends and fans of Thiru. Sujatha Sir,

It is a great shock to know that he has passed away, but his words and writing will never go please all read his books once again and i think this is my way of saluting,

DEAR SUJATHA SIR WE ALL MISS U

Gravatar He is really intellegient writer I dont need to tell. We will miss his technical writing.

Gravatar Sujatha was the one who introduced Haiku and Puthu Kavithai to me. In a dingy lending library at Kutchery Road, I discovered his slim volume on Introducing haiku to novices.
His writings never had any assumed brilliance. He just extended his brilliance into his writings as well.

May his soul rest in peace.

Gravatar My Dear Sujatha,
Even when struck with grief of your demise, I still think that you are there to share my grief and somehow I think in the next week Kumudham or Anandha Vikatan..you will write " En Maranathirku Pin"....
You can never die man..cannot afford to!
Let me record this way as Engels did for Marx...
"Since 29th Feb 2008, Sujatha stopped thinking".....
It pains though...

Thanks Mr Sujatha

Gravatar A great personality...may his soul rest in peace...

He made me feel proud about Tamil and Trichy...

Gravatar A great writer. MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE.

Gravatar Sujatha, along with Kalki, was one of the primary reasons I got interested in reading Tamil works (fiction and otherwise). It is a big loss to the writing fraternity. Heartfelt condolences to his family.

Gravatar Sujatha was the primary reason why I started reading Tamil. His demise leaves a void which will never be filled.
RIP Sujatha a.k.a Rangarajan.

Gravatar He may not be with us in this world physically but his works and the light he passed to this generation and future will be there forever !!

Truely, no words to explain the loss. May God give enough strength to his families and his fans !!

Gravatar மார்க் ட்வைன் சொன்னது போல "DEATH,THE ONLY IMMORTAL.."

Gravatar Avar aanma santhi adaiya iraivanai vendukiren.

Gravatar Will never forget "En Iniya Iyandhira" and "Meendum Jino". The only sc fi writer in Thamizh is dead. It is a big loss and I am totally shocked by this loss to Thamizh literary world. I dont know if he believes in reincarnations, but for once I feel he should be born again as himself and write more and more for the sake of his countless fans who must be wondering why the sky hasn't fallen yet.

Gravatar He made us proud to be Tamils, and proud to be watching Tamil movies on par and better than other languages. He is a great citizen of India and an icon for all Tamils. His life shall be remembered in his stories, poems and literature and his science columns that many readers would remember him with. God Bless.

Gravatar i was very much shocked to hear the news and feltas if some one of my family member has passed. there will be no replacement. he is one of those person whom i wish death should not come. he is an allrounder. may his soul rest in peace.

Gravatar May his soul rest in peace

Gravatar Here was an unique person who wrote on many things. I wonder whether there would be any other person of his age with as much knowledge and information as he has on IT,electronics & communication Physics, bio science etc. He kept updating his knowledge constantly. Above that,he had the skill to write that in a simple language even for a layman to understand. He is simply great. Sujatha sir, we will miss you.

Gravatar It is a great loss to the Tamils across the world...avar iruntha idathai yaravathu nirappa vendukiren!

Gravatar talented Short story writer.Had great and encyclopediac source.

Gravatar What a significant loss! I am sad.

He introduced computers to me in his ‘Silicon sillu puratchi’ [a silicon revolution] 20+ years ago. He knew how to convey binary and xor gates to even a 10 year old. Towards the end, he was instrumental in getting tamil i18n in linux. He was writing about XML / RPC and such even as late as this year.

Both me and my mom are fans of his writing. It was one of the few things we both could discuss without a generation gap. He knew how to appeal to her as well as me as well as to Gen X-ers.

I am truly going to miss his writings. Truly.

Gravatar A Great writer; Intellectual; Agnostic. He is no more now. If there is God, he will be received by him. He will be remembered as long as Tamil(s) lives.

Gravatar both my husband and myself were really shocked on hearing the news. we r finding it extremely difficult to acccept the fact/or to even come to terms with the fact that he is no more . a versatile writer, voracious reader, a simple man, a person who reached the readers who were even
40 -50 yrs younger to him..... many more attributes/adjectives can be on added to this list . he may not be with us any more but through his literary work he will always be cherished . our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.may his soul rest in peace.

lavanya sundaram.

Gravatar What a loss! I am sad.
He introduced Computer, sicence fiction stories in Tamil Stories,he is the first writer to do so,both me,my mom, sister were great fans. His writings were such that you cannot move from that place after reading the small portion of the book, because his writings will make u to complete the full story and then only we can do any work. He is a gem of Tamil Nadu. His writings were inspired my many Youths, even at the age of 72 his writings were like by many Youths.

Gravatar We will definitely miss a greate writer.... May his soul rest in peace..

Gravatar It was when I was 12 or 13, I started reading him, thanks to my friend’s sister who meticulously had clipped and preserved his "JK", "Vaanamenum Veethiyile" and "Sorkatheevu" - serial stories from "Dhinamani Kathir"(then a paid, big sized weekly magazine, not a free weekly supplement). I was inspired right away and would use every opportunity to read his articles without fail thereafter.

In my opinion he did not just write stories, but brought us the real feeling of being there - his ability to bring visuals, voices, the smell of the surroundings whether it be a story happening in a village, a city or an auto workshop and their vernaculars or the portrayal of different personalities or articles about his move to Madras or his child hood cricket matches in Srirangam (very comical) or about his weekly visits to Salem to see his ailing dad or religious articles with a different perspective in “Gnaboomi”..... ., it was beyond any comparison and I am yet to read something like that again.

For those of us who started reading him in the mid 70s and continued to read him during the 80s, his impact was very large in us - we were mentally changed, inspired fully by his intelligence and smartness that he portrayed through his characters, forgetting our selves, living, talking and walking like his characters (my fav. one in "Kanavu (th) Tholirchalai - the hero - a cinema hero to his preaching manager-"Don't talk like Desai" - referring to the Morrarji Desai days).

As any true pioneer, he shared and taught aspiring young writers the secrets and techniques of good writing through many of his articles.

There are some things that hurt us more for reasons beyond the obvious, that we do not know and his passing is one for me. It really hurts - I mean REALLY - to see him go, but let us cherish his contribution to the Tamil readers.

I wish to express my deepest condolence to his family and thank them for the support they extended to him, that allowed him to write.

Man, Sujatha, Rangarajan, Iyengar (as he called himself defending to criticisms about JK) – you did your job very well and you will be missed a lot, by many.

Now its our responsibility to take his writing to the upcoming generations... we miss u sujatha sir....

Gravatar Sujatha and Bala Murali were my two eyes. I belong to Srirangam. To think that Sujatha is no more I feel that I have lost the living part of my life. I have the habit of quoting his lines and I am sure those will be coated with sadness ever.I really pray for the real Sujatha - his wife now.

Gravatar No words to express our sorrow to a brilliant person .
We will miss you

Gravatar Got to know abt Sujatha Sir's demise

no more words to describe this misery.

Gravatar Many a people will be jack of all trades, and king of one, but to me, Mr.Sujatha stands out because king of many (Engineering, Technology, Fiction, Literature, Story Writer etc etc) which is purely divine, very rare to witness such a great person. Its a great loss to Tamil Community and India.

We are all very fortunate to witness such a person.

Though everyone knows about his tremendous, iam just penning a few lines....

He's the pioneer for designing and producing Electronic Voting Machine thats in practise during voting at his tenure as General Manager at BEL.

Being a Electronics and Communication Graduate from MIT, Madras in 70's, he's highly tech savvy , demostrated strong knowledge of engineering and technology (very visible in his stories) and elucidates clearly in his writing even that
can be understanble by common man.

His writings created revolution in short stories arena and recieved strong accolades from all age groups and attracted youth.
he has touched upon science fiction, fiction, novels, family drama, wit and humour. His stories are really learnings and wealth of knowledge, experience and information.

He's been story wwriter in Tamil Cinema right from 80's up to the latest films like Roja, Indian, kannathil muthamittal, anniyan, boys, sivaji etc.

His demise is great loss to India and especially to Tamil Nadu and Tamils. He's been great inspiration to younger generations.

My deep condolences to his beloved family , may his soul rest in peace.

Mr.Sujatha is no more, but his writings, his contributions will be ever etched in memory lane. On going by his own quote in one of the story
ullam thuranthavum (excellent novel), life is nothing but soul, and body is just a shirt, his soul always remains with us through his dialogues and writings.

Gravatar Dear friends
Sri Rangarajan (BEL periappa to me.. we named him thus for he used to work at Bharat Electronics Limited) was a close uncle of mine and I would have thought this is only a huge personal loss but seeing the outpouring of grief here, I realize that he has touched the lives of more people than i could have ever imagined.
Knowing him from close quarters, i was touched by his humility and his eagerness to learn despite his genius.

Marc Anthony's tribute to Brutus befits Sri Rangarajan - "His life was gentle, and the elements
So mix'd in him that Nature might stand up and say to all the world 'This was a man!'

May his soul rest in peace

Gravatar I feel it's my duty to pay homage to the great thinker and writer of this computer era. His demise is a great loss not just for me or Tamil readers; it is a loss for Tamil and the literature community as a whole...

Sujatha... like he inspired a lot of young minds, captivated me by his style and use of the language. He triggered in me not only the evolutionary thinking, also an analytical mind to ask questions.

His work has been a tribute to Mother Tamil and his demise is a loss for every single home and to the literary world.

I still remember the day I met him in a 'face to face' program. He was so energetic and enthusiastic to answer questions. He was just out of a heart surgery. But ready to answer the youngters!!!

I feel like I have lost a part of myself. My condolences for the bereaved family.

Gravatar Heartfelt condolences to Sujatha Rangarajan and family. May the Lord give strength in their hours of grief to shoulder the irreperable loss

Gravatar So for i am not digesting this incident!...

Any way in the life race god is always the winner.

Gravatar I was telling a Telugu friend about the death of my most cherished writer in Tamil and told him how his writings on Science and technology was the reason for many Tamil youth getting inspired to become computer engineers.

His question was: are those stories available in English?

Gravatar I remember a couple of outstanding contributions:

1.His Kumudam essay: "Miss Thamizh thaayae namaskaram" that introduced pudukkavidhai to mainstream tamil magazine.

2. His early 1980 Bommai(?) article on how computer is used in modern movie making. It was so good, I presented a seminar in my engineering 3rd year just based on that article.

3. His short story "Computer-ae oru kadhai ezhuthu" written in the 60s.

4. An outstanding piece where he imagines a few key characters in his
real life that shaped him: what if all of them came together and talked to each other about him. Man, I have never read something like that!

5. 1982? Year of the Child: he wrote a
moving marabukkavithai in Kungumam:
(you can read this in the collection of essays - Miss Thamizhthayae Namaskaram)

It starts:

"Koottamaana hotel-kalil Saptavudan Plate-eduppai"

Jeyamohan observes Sujatha never let his emotion rule him and that most of his writing is literary because of its style.

Wrong, Sir. Read this poem. Read his
novel: Andru un arugil.

His emotion was very deep and almost
passionless. You can say he didnt have
'PERSONAL emotion' drive his writing.

He was very emotional, but not sentimental.

***

Two initiatives helped us a lot:

Kumari padippagam reprinted several of his novels and essays as cheap books, that help spread his writing beyond the 60s and 70s that it was originally written. We should thank Kumari padippagam veera raghavan for that.

Second, I was very happy to see
writersujatha.com providing most of his writing as ebooks. Please buy his
essays and short stories and read them.

Ravi Annaswamy

Gravatar When one develops the manappakkuvam (called Sthithaprajna in ancient lore) where one is not driven by personal passion, then his or her
memory becomes clear and all-grasping and their judgement becomes unbiased.

Then one is able to see the same thing in several viewpoints simultaneously and only truth
'occurs' in his perceptions.

whatever they do, they start showing the grandness and vastness of detail as well as stretch.

I feel Sujatha is such an accomplished soul and one of the last remnants of that caliber. Another is Ilayaraja.

Someone asked Sujatha - 'Eppadi sir ungalukku ivvalavu jnanam?'

He replied: 'gnanam illeenga - gnapagam' implying that his 'intelligence' was primarily his
'memory'

But 'memory' itself is a gift of passionless state of mind.

Ravi

Gravatar Great Writer. Presented the complex scientific concepts in simple language to ordinary reader. Very versatile starting from Science fiction to commentry on brahma sutram. It will be a long time for somebody to fill the vacant place left by him.

I regret not being in India at this greiving time.

Gravatar He is one of my role model. Adorable person. In fact if I am in this good position today it is because of reading his books. He kindled my thoughts on Computer when he wrote a book on "Silicon Sillu Puratchi". What a writer? Gravatar The Entire Reading & Writing World has lost an Intellectual writer, a great personality and a great human being. He has touched the hearts of many and will always stay in the hearts of many. May God give the bereaved family Enough Strength & Courage to bear with the huge loss.

Gravatar There is absolutely no comparison for Sujatha.

In the seventies, when TV was a big thing for the whole India, Sujatha wrote about computers and robots.
He was the first ever science fiction writer in not only Tamil but also in the whole country.
No one in the Telugu, Hindi or Bengali or Marathi literature/film world is every comparable to Sujatha.
He is a God sent person for our state.
He is probably the only one person in the world, having the combination properties of being a
-Scientist
-Writer and
-Movie scripter.

Let there be another Sujatha coming very soon.

Gravatar Sujatha had written on his turning 71 in vikatan and that brought lots of responses. On Lazygeek's blog he had replied this way:

-------

dear friend
Rarely I answer blog references One of the greatest pleasures in wriring is perceptive readers like you are reading every line and its echo is loud and clear
It was a general essay I wrote on turning seventy It had a global response The purpose is not to scare people about growing old and dying but to inspire a sense of urgency in whatever one wants to pursue in life and in its wake revise and simplify the targets
Sujatha

Posted by: Sujatha | May 10, 2005 12:48 PM

--------

The last line gives clue to his methods and his reason for success.

Look at the keywords:

inspire a sense of urgency in whatever one wants to pursue in life and in its wake revise and simplify the targets

Only this kind of philosophy can explain how someone can accomplish so much in a life.

And interestingly the same words describe the reason for his writing success:

Keeping the sense of urgency in mind, revise and simplify.

__________

Thank you Boss!

Gravatar I grow up with Sujatha's writings. He was like a person well known to me, even though I never met him. Personaly I learnt a lot from his writings. When I learnt his death, I felt like I lost something. I never felt like this before...
He is a great writer. Tamil culture will remember him thousands of years.

Gravatar We had lost a visionary, prolific, versatile writer we had in Tamil literature. It is a great loss to tamilians all over the world and an irreplaceable loss for the generations to come.

Explanation of complex matters/subjects into simple & easily understandable ways to a layman was his unique ability. Sujatha did a commendable job in taking internet and complex scientific matters into the rural/ interior parts of Tamil Nadu. He was the one who touched upon the internet net revolution – way back in early eighties. He was the one who impressed me to read the Tamil novels & literature.

I am feeling very sad; I am in loss of words to express my feelings. I am great fan of Sujatha. May his soul rest in peace and I pray the almighty to give his family the strength & courage to overcome this irreparable loss.

Gravatar when reading the condolences left by millions of his fans, i think his great achievement is having touched many lives. Rewards and awards dont matter. he has touched all our lives... sujatha was synonymous with chennai and tamil... by seeing the anjalis and condolences i come to know that in addition to being a great writer he was a great human being as well. to see his enthusiasm in encouraging budding writers, makes me think that this is what all indians have to follow without feeling any jealousy or envy towards our peers. I think he was born to write, to be a good husband and a father and nothing else. He has completed his job, but have left all of us crying for more of his writing. I, like everyone else, feel like i have lost a friend, though i have never heard his voice nor seen him either on tv or in person. That is the greatness of this man. He will always touch our lives in the voice of Rishi in Roja, Pugalendi in Mudalvan and through characters os Srirangathu thevaithagal. Though my mother and aunt used to tell me they see Sujatha at the beach doing his morning walks, i never took the time to get a glimpse of him. May he rest in peace and god give strength to his family members to overcome this loss.

Gravatar Who said Sujatha is no more?

He lives in my book shelf as a reference..

He has always been a guide, philosoper, and he will be to my generations...

I never believed Ekalaivans could exist in real life..

Now I believe...

I am sure he would be a Drona for lot of Ekalaivans..

Only differnce he won't ask the thumb like Drona , He will ask Ekalaivas to write better than him..

As far as I am concerned I talk to him through his books..

I feel him while reading his books..

So he is always with me whereever I go..

In my mind, PC, Book shelf, Pen Drive, ipod everywhere...

Sujatha I Love you so much...

You live till Tamil lives..

So you live for ever in our heart, mind, soul.

Love

Gravatar I grew up reading his works, I framed my line of thinking reading the various books he had suggested as good reading, a lot of questions to my life was answered by his rational, the only tribute to him would be to remain a good reader and remember never to loose the sense of humor and remain alert and living till the end..

RIP 'Sujatha'

Gravatar With profound sadness we salute the great tamil writer Sujatha for all his work. He indeed made an history. He will live in our hearts till the end of this universe. I will make sure that my son reads all of his workings and also will try and locate all his writings for my personal library.

(The first line can be fitted at the Start an End)

Gravatar Thanks for all the effort that made this website possible. I was trying to find a site where I can pay homage to the great person.
He is my Drona who never asked for the thumb of this Eagalaiva.
