Gravatar It's not about help, it's not about trying to get more people's health care covered, it's about power. Pure and simple. The GD democrats use class envy to increase their power. They know that our free market will rpovide the best health care, they do not give a rat's ass about people's health. They want to make as many people as they can jealous of others and use that as a wedge. Sadly there are a lot more mindless folks who will buy this garbage than there are people that want to provide for themselves.

That has always been the left's stategy. To slowly get more and more people dependent on some kind of government largesse. Public education, social security, health care, food stamps, welfare for having babies. Destroy the family and make the all knowing government your provider. Destroy anyone or anything that attempts to tell the truth. And when that fails wheel out the victims to show the hard heartedness of conservatives.

If our public schools were really about getting the best education for our kids than there would be competition and vouchers. It's not. It's about keeping the teacher's unions happy.

If our tax system were really about maximizing revenues, than our ridiculous tax rates would be laughable. Instead Charlie Rangel unveils a trillion dollar tax hike and calls it reform. And isn't hooted off the GD program for the bold faced liar he is.

If our social security system was really about providing income to retirees than the largest ponzi scheme in history would be revamped. Instead you've got morons like Obama saying the system is sound!!!!! and just needs a little tweaking. When President Bush tried to allow a small percetage of FICA taxes to be invested in an approved list of equities, mutual funds or bonds, he was vilified. Did the fucking media ever mention the rip roaring success of a similar plan in Chile? Eff no. Did they mention it would be voluntary? Of course not. But they sure as hell said my mother would have her retirement income put in jeopardy because of the manipulations of Wall Street big shots. Power baby, power.

And this slowly creeping to a single payer health care system sure isn't about getting the best health care for everyone. It's about getting more mindless people beholding to government. Sickening.

Sorry for the vent Lem, guess the Rockies about to get swept have soured my Sunday.

Gravatar Yep, but it seems that the only people in the world who realize that government is the problem not the solution is a handful of Americans who understand the core of our Revolution - that it's "necessary evil" but still an evil.

Gravatar It seems to me all of this started when HMOs came into the picture. I almost think we are better off going back to a cash basis for routine care, and have private insurance only for hospitalization and more serious treatment. If we paid cash for drugs and routine medical care, a market would potentially develop and health care costs would dramatically fall (as we no longer paying those guys in the backroom with the sharp pencils). We should also have the ability to deduct costs (cash) with MSAs that allow one to roll-over contributions. Cash payments for routine care would be much cheaper than current expensive insurance once the market forces competition. As long as third party payers are involved, costs will continue to rise. The Government's rationing of healthcare will only make current conditions worse (remember price controls and the lack that created). There is one problem with cash payments; it would require one to work (or invest) to have cash.

Gravatar "They just don't get it. Government central planning is no more able to efficiently manage the allocation of health care resources in the UK or Canada or Cuba or anywhere else than Soviet central planning was able to figure out how many razor blades or size 8 women's shoes were needed and where they should be sent."

Oh come on now, Lem. It was only 87 short years ago that it failed. That's far too short a time to determine whether or not the economic calculation problem is real.

See, they just weren't doing it right. Just give it more time. (Presumably so the generation that lived through it will die and take the knowledge of its failure to the grave.)
